What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Court Clerk position at 34th Circuit Court?
The 34th Circuit Court is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deputy Court Clerk. Under the supervision of the Central Filing Operations Manager/Chief Deputy Court Clerk of the 34th Circuit Court Roscommon County and the Circuit Court Administrator, the Deputy Court Clerk performs a variety of clerical support tasks, including, but not limited to the following:
- Responsible for monthly records of divorce/ annulment prepared for the county clerk.
- Prepares Orders for judge’s signature following court hearings when clerking. (as needed.)
- Responds to inquiries on the telephone, provides information on court procedures, schedule, and performs computer inquiries to look up specific case information.
- Clerk of the Court duties in Family and Circuit Court. Court notes to be entered in the Register of Action, following all hearings.
- Perform as the CER/CEO as needed.
- Reviews incoming mail, receiving and filing documents to be filed in numerical order and placed in the court file and noting the same in the Register of Actions. Check and verify parties’ information entered in the computer matches the file.
- Prepares true copies of court documents.
- Process prisoner litigation cases.
- Receive and file legal papers, receipt fees, and respond to inquiries at the counter
- Performs a variety of related support tasks such as typing correspondence, boxing files for storage, copying documents, and related tasks.
- Receives and receipts filing fees, attorney fees, restitution, reimbursements and other court ordered payments in accordance with court orders. Distributes restitution as needed.
- Balances the cash drawer weekly, and transmittal weekly.
- Team Building skills and familiarity with the principles and practices of continuous improvement.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize the workload.
· High school diploma or equivalent. Additional advanced legal secretarial course work is desirable. CEO/CER certification preferred but will be required within 18 months of hire.
· Two years’ experience in judicial, clerical, customer service, or general office work. Basic computer skills; excellent communication skills and the ability to learn court rules and procedures.
· Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer, fax copier, printer/scanner, etc. with skill and accuracy.
· Ability to communicate, interact, and collaborate effectively with people inside the organization as well as with the public and other external agencies.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Ability to read and interpret legal documents, statutes, and rules of the court.
· Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff.
· Comply with court professional code of conduct as applicable.
· Must complete a satisfactory background check. The background check is understood to encompass all forms of pre-employment screening, including but not limited to: drug screen, physical, criminal background, driving record, education, training and licensing verification, employment history, and professional and personal references.
· Must obtain and maintain Certified Electronic Operator (CEO) certification; to be obtained within 18 months of hiring date.

Pay: $17.93 - $19.52 per hour
