Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: Days (United States of America) Location: Coastal Cardiology located at Roper Office Park located at 8536 Palmetto Commerce Pkwy, Ladson, SC 29456 Schedule: Job Summary: The Patient Referral Specialist works in department specific referral centers and assists in coordinating referrals to physicians, patients, and post-acute care service (home health, hospice, etc.). This position will be responsible for processing referrals, and handling all activities related to the processing of referrals for the assigned department. Services offered include but are not limited to assisting patients and providers with appropriate referral information, scheduling of appointments, obtaining insurance authorizations, tracking the referral process, entering demographic/referrals in the electronic medical record, follow up phone calls to offices and/or patients, collaborating with providers for decision making, and providing healthcare related information. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED). Experience: A minimum of one year experience working with referrals in a healthcare environment; or two years’ experience in a medical setting. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred. Candidates processed through an organizational acquisition with less than 1 year experience can be grandfathered into the Patient Referral Specialist title. Licensure/Certification: N/A Primary Source Verification (if applicable): N/A Knowledge/Skills: Strong organization and priority setting skills to ensure notification to referring physician offices of scheduled appointments, cancellations, and no-shows. Ability to organize and manage competing priorities. Ability to problem solve and show good judgment. Strong patient-centered focus. Effective verbal and written communications skills. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to follow protocols when working referrals, scheduling appointments and follow-up with referring providers or other offices. Other: Contacts: Physicians, co-workers, patients, and various referral sources. Work Demands/Environment: Work is performed in a -office setting. Involves frequent contact with patients and referring sources by phone, fax, or electronic medical record. Intermittent standing. Intermittent walking. Long periods of sitting. May require lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs. Intermittent use of finger/hand dexterity. Frequent reaching with hands/arms. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Normal medical office environment. Ability to read and comprehend.
