Job Summary:
The Bar Back plays a crucial support role in ensuring the bar operates smoothly, efficiently, and maintains a high level of cleanliness and organization. They assist bartenders by restocking supplies, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring guests receive top-tier service in an upscale environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Bar Setup & Maintenance
- Ensure the bar is fully stocked before, during, and after service (liquor, beer, wine, mixers, glassware, ice, garnishes, napkins, and bar tools).
- Maintain proper inventory levels and restock items as needed.
- Keep bar areas clean, organized, and sanitized at all times.
- Change kegs, replenish ice bins, and check CO2 levels for draft systems.
- Ensure proper storage of ingredients, garnishes, and bar equipment.
2. Support for Bartenders
- Assist with garnishing and basic drink preparation when required.
- Retrieve and restock spirits, syrups, and other necessary bar items.
- Help polish and prepare glassware, ensuring it meets the establishment's quality standards.
- Monitor and refill fresh garnishes, juices, and syrups throughout the shift.
3. Guest Interaction & Service
- Anticipate bartender needs to enhance guest experience and service speed.
- Assist in clearing and resetting bar areas efficiently.
- Provide water and non-alcoholic beverages to guests if needed.
- Maintain professional and welcoming demeanor, upholding the restaurant’s upscale atmosphere.
4. Compliance & Safety
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food and beverage handling.
- Ensure responsible alcohol service by assisting bartenders in monitoring guest consumption.
- Follow all sanitation and cleaning procedures, including bar deep-cleaning schedules.
- Properly dispose of waste, recycling, and broken glass in designated areas.
Qualifications & Requirements:
✅ Experience: Prior experience in a high-volume or upscale bar/restaurant is preferred.
✅ Knowledge: Basic understanding of bar operations, liquor types, and mixology fundamentals.
✅ Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy cases (up to 50 lbs.), stand for long shifts, and move quickly in a fast-paced environment.
✅ Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills to maintain cleanliness and restock efficiently.
✅ Team Player: Must work well under pressure and collaborate effectively with bartenders and staff.
✅ Professionalism: High-level grooming, etiquette, and adherence to upscale service standards.
✅ Availability: Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
