Position Overview:
The Sommelier is responsible for curating an exceptional wine experience, guiding guests through expert selections, pairings, and recommendations while maintaining the highest level of service. Key Responsibilities:
Wine Program & Guest Service
✅ Engage Guests with Elegance & Expertise – Assist diners in selecting wines that complement their meals, personal preferences, and occasions.
✅ Table-Side Wine Service – Execute flawless presentation, decanting, and pouring with confidence and sophistication.
✅ Curate Thoughtful Pairings – Recommend perfectly balanced wine and food combinations to enhance the culinary experience.
✅ Educate Guests with Refinement – Share insights about terroir, varietals, vintages, and winemaking techniques in a way that is engaging yet approachable.
✅ Anticipate Guest Preferences – Recognize returning patrons and tailor recommendations based on previous selections.
Wine List Development & Management
✅ Curate & Maintain a World-Class Wine List – Work closely with chefs and beverage directors to develop a diverse and sophisticated selection.
✅ Ensure Proper Wine Storage & Inventory – Oversee cellar organization, stock rotation, and temperature control.
✅ Source Exclusive & Rare Wines – Build relationships with vineyards, distributors, and winemakers to secure premium selections.
✅ Monitor Trends & Guest Preferences – Adapt the wine program based on industry innovations, guest feedback, and seasonal changes.
✅ Manage Costing & Margins – Balance pricing strategies, inventory levels, and profitability without compromising quality.
Wine Service & Staff Training
✅ Lead Wine Education for Staff – Conduct regular tastings and training sessions to ensure servers and bartenders understand wine pairings, service techniques, and selling strategies.
✅ Maintain Proper Wine Service Protocols – Ensure all team members adhere to fine-dining standards for glassware, pouring, and guest interactions.
✅ Uphold Luxury Hospitality Standards – Maintain an elevated level of professionalism, etiquette, and attentiveness at all times.
Collaboration & Upselling
✅ Work Closely with the Culinary Team – Understand the menu in depth to curate ideal pairings and seasonal wine selections.
✅ Upsell with Subtlety & Sophistication – Elevate the guest experience by suggesting premium vintages, special reserve wines, and tasting flights.
✅ Promote Wine Events & Experiences – Develop and host wine dinners, tastings, and pairing experiences to engage guests and boost sales.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
✔ Advanced Wine Knowledge – Certified Sommelier (Court of Master Sommeliers), WSET Level 3 , or equivalent experience.
✔ Proven Upscale Hospitality Experience – Minimum 3-5 years in fine dining, Michelin-starred, or luxury hospitality settings.
✔ Refined Communication & Storytelling Ability – Engage guests with a blend of expertise, charm, and authenticity.
✔ Strong Sales & Upselling Skills – Ability to increase wine sales without being pushy.
✔ Exceptional Table-Side Service Etiquette – Mastery of proper wine handling, decanting, and presentation techniques.
✔ Ability to Work Under Pressure – Thrive in a fast-paced, high-profile environment while maintaining composure.
✔ Attention to Detail & Organization – Manage a complex wine list, cellar inventory, and service logistics seamlessly.
