Our client is seeking a highly skilled Supplier Development Engineer to join their team near Kalamazoo, MI. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, new product development and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). This position is responsible for developing and maintaining supplier relationships for NPD to ensure the highest quality of materials and services are delivered to our organization.
Responsibilities :
Overall accountability for strategic sourcing and management of electronics and software commodities to support the business partner goals and objectives.
Collaborates with Commodity Managers to ensure alignment and execution of all commodity strategies.
Ownership of all activities related to New Product Development, including Supplier onboarding, issuing and managing PPAP purchase orders, and supporting accelerated new product schedule deadlines.
Analyzes technical data, designs, preliminary specifications, manufacturing limitations, Supplier facilities, and part / equipment availability.
Coordinates with multiple functions on the design, production, test, and qualification of all new products.
Implements Engineering Change Orders and Temporary Deviations relating to the Procurement department.
Manages critical Supplier agreements including new sources within given commodities, contract renewals, negotiation of terms, issue identification, tracking and resolution.
Conducts research to understand supply market and commodity trends.
Works with Suppliers to develop and manage continuous improvement programs, addressing quality, delivery, service as well as price.
What we are seeking :
Bachelor’s Degree (4 Year) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.
5 years of increasing project leadership within Engineering, Manufacturing or Operations requiring advanced project planning and team organizational skills.
Knowledge of quality control processes and methodologies (i.e. various levels of PPAP).
Skills in analyzing total cost of ownership (TCO) and life cycle costs.
Solid understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with product specifications, standards, and compliance requirements.
Basic understanding of materials such as metals, plastics, and elastomers (processing and properties).
Basic understanding of software, firmware, PCBA’s, wire harnesses, connectors and other electronic components
