Where You’ll Work:
Come join our team as a Patent and Innovation Law Intern this summer! As an intern, you will work as part of the Innovation Governance Legal team. This internship is project-oriented and will provide a lot of opportunity for hands-on experience. The intern will be working on identifying patentable innovations, patent prosecution, and legal process improvement, as well as gaining knowledge of various intellectual property legal tools. In addition, the intern will work on projects to support privacy law and artificial intelligence compliance. You will have the opportunity to collaborate within your department and across the business while learning from some of our brightest and most innovative leaders in your area of focus.
What You’ll Do:
Participate in Internal Meetings including invention disclosure meetings with Innovation Governance Legal Team members, as well as The Cigna Group inventors
Work on key projects in areas such as identifying process improvement opportunities, e.g., within the patent process
Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to successfully complete project work
Identify areas of process improvements for increased operational excellence
Other special projects based on need and interest, e.g., Artificial Intelligence & Privacy
Assist with ad-hoc legal projects that may arise as business needs change
Qualifications:
Ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in Law School or have a relevant experience such as completion of a patent law course and a strong interest in patent law
Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, software, or computer science, preferred
Strong mathematical, programming, and/or engineering skills
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel
Proven ability to identify legal and business risks
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities under deadline pressure
Additional Information:
Location: This can be either a hybrid role aligned to our office in St. Louis, Philadelphia, or Bloomfield, CT, or a full-time remote, work at home role.
Work Authorization: One goal of this internship program is to prepare and identify qualified candidates for roles with The Cigna Group post-graduation. Therefore, this temporary internship is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who would not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Schedule: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for 10-12 consecutive weeks beginning May 19, 2025. Working days are Monday – Friday.
Compensation: For this position, we anticipate offering an hourly rate between $35.00 and $45.00 per hour depending on relevant factors, including major and year of study.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
