This position is fully on-site and is ideal for an engineer with extensive experience in mechanical system design, additive manufacturing, and cross-functional collaboration.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Advanced Mechanical Design & DfAM Optimization:

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of metal components for additive manufacturing, ensuring functionality, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Utilize features and geometries unique to AM to create aesthetically appealing, structurally sound, and cost-effective parts.
  • Modify, redesign, and refine customer products to fully capitalize on 3DEO’s capabilities, driving DfAM best practices.
  • Create detailed, high-quality CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Apply GD&T principles and support the development of production documentation for manufacturing accuracy.

Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership:

  • Serve as the technical lead on customer projects, guiding discussions toward high-value solutions using 3DEO’s metal AM technology.
  • Collaborate with sales, production, and engineering teams to drive customer success and revenue generation.
  • Conduct real-time, collaborative design sessions with customers to quickly iterate and validate concepts.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, ensuring design expertise is effectively shared across the team.

Process Development & Manufacturing Integration:

  • Partner with manufacturing engineering to define project scope and technical feasibility, ensuring seamless integration of designs into production.
  • Conduct material and process-specific research to continuously improve design methodologies and manufacturability.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging manufacturing and post-processing technologies to enhance design capabilities.
  • Work closely with R&D, engineering, and production teams to support process development and workflow optimization for scalable manufacturing solutions.

Continuous Improvement & Industry Innovation:

  • Identify and implement innovative design techniques that enhance component performance, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
  • Contribute to the advancement of internal design workflows, automation strategies, and DfAM best practices.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, advancements in AM technology, and material innovations to ensure 3DEO remains at the forefront of metal additive design.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive experience in mechanical design, with a strong emphasis on additive manufacturing (DfAM), complex geometries, and lightweighting techniques.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, particularly SolidWorks, with experience in complex assemblies and advanced surfacing.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, including metal AM, CNC machining, injection molding, and conventional fabrication.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T principles, technical drawings, and production documentation.
  • Ability to lead customer conversations, identify design challenges, and translate customer needs into high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills, particularly in manufacturability and process optimization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of leading technical discussions with customers and internal teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing technical complexity, deadlines, and business objectives.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with sales, engineering, and production teams to develop and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and creativity in problem-solving.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • 8 or more years of hands-on engineering experience, preferably in additive manufacturing, industrial equipment, robotics, or advanced mechanical design.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading design projects from concept to production.
  • Experience working directly with customers in a highly technical, consultative role.
  • Prior experience in DfAM, lightweighting, and complex component optimization is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments, interacting with equipment, materials, and production teams.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on design projects.
