As a 3M Ventures Scouting & Research Lead , you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by :
Interpreting the impact of technology trends on industry, customers, and markets to create potential future scenarios.
Continually driving research and analysis of technology trends and emerging shifts in worldwide markets.
Developing and maintaining a close network of 3M and external technical thought leaders.
Working with partners within and outside of 3M to identify and articulate customer needs.
Working closely with customers to identify opportunities, develop solutions to their challenges, and bring these solutions to market.
Aiding in development and defense of intellectual property to enhance 3M's position in areas of strategic focus.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications :
Master’s degree or higher in a technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
Minimum of ten (10) years combined experience in product commercialization processes, new technology development, technology / business assessment, and / or research laboratory experience within a private, public, government, or military environment.
Minimum five (5) years of technology and market scouting experience.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include :
Experience in multiple scientific disciplines.
PhD degree in science or engineering.
Comfort with ambiguity.
Demonstrated expertise in communicating the value of growth opportunities to an executive audience.
Demonstrated ability to concisely summarize complex technologies and growth opportunities for a non-technical audience.
Technology generalist capabilities – the ability to rapidly learn and distill technologies and translate them into value propositions that 3M customers care about.
Collaborative style with proven ability to successfully collaborate with internal and external partners.
Experience hiring, training, and managing analyst teams to rapidly deliver actionable research reports on application areas of interest to 3M.
Travel : May include up to 25% domestic / international
