Purpose of the Role:
An exam proctor is responsible for overseeing the examination process to ensure that all rules and regulations are followed, maintaining the integrity of the testing environment. The role involves supervising students during exams, ensuring fairness, and managing the logistics of the examination process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor Exam Sessions: Supervise students during exams to ensure compliance with examination rules, preventing cheating, and maintaining a controlled and respectful environment.
- Distribute Materials: Distribute exam papers, answer sheets, and other required materials to candidates before the exam starts.
- Provide Instructions: Clearly communicate instructions to students regarding the exam process, time limits, and rules.
- Ensure Exam Security: Safeguard exam materials, including exam papers and answer sheets, both before and after the exam.
- Monitor Behavior: Observe students during the exam to detect any signs of misconduct, including cheating or disruptive behavior.
- Manage Exam Time: Ensure exams begin and end on time, keeping track of the remaining time and notifying students when their time is nearly up.
- Answer Questions: Respond to students' inquiries about the exam instructions, ensuring they understand the guidelines without providing any answers.
- Enforce Exam Rules: Ensure all students follow the established procedures, including the prohibition of unauthorized materials or devices (e.g., mobile phones).
- Handle Disruptions: Manage any disruptions or irregularities during the exam, including addressing issues related to illness, emergencies, or student misconduct.
- Collect and Organize: Gather and secure all completed exam papers at the end of the session, ensuring nothing is misplaced or lost.
- Report Issues: Record any incidents, irregularities, or concerns during the exam, including cheating or procedural errors, and report them to the exam coordinator or supervisor.
- Ensure Room Setup: Assist with the setup and cleanup of the exam room, ensuring desks and chairs are properly arranged and that the environment remains conducive to testing.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (college degree or specific training may be preferred).
- Experience: Prior experience as an exam proctor, invigilator, or in a similar role is beneficial but not always required.
- Attention to Detail: Strong ability to notice discrepancies or issues during the exam.
- Communication Skills: Clear and concise verbal communication to explain exam rules and address questions.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to handle emergencies or issues that may arise during the exam.
