Position Description:
The Cost Accountant will work closely with all levels of the organization to meet financial forecasting, reporting, and planning needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operational accounting with a proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced workplace environment. The role will require the development, delivery, and presentation of key reporting. The candidate should have a strong understanding of financial, operational, sales, and macro/industry key metrics necessary to analyze and report on performance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, analyze, and report operational and business-relevant finance metrics on a cadence set by the company and be required to handle all aspects of operational accounting, including AP/Billing/standard costing and analysis
- Work with department managers to set, track, and/or optimize performance metrics and performance vs. budgets
- Develop financial reporting and dashboards to report financial performance
- Collaborate with other members of the finance and operations team to track and report project finance metrics
- Own analysis and reporting processes designed to prepare actionable, insightful, and detailed financial reporting that drives effective decision-making, focusing on improving the speed of reporting creation and accuracy of forecasts
- Develop and maintain relationships with functional managers, department heads, and other team members
- Partner with business unit leaders and project managers to develop the understanding needed to create variance commentary and meaningful analysis, as well as serving as a liaison to them on financial, budget, and related questions and issues that may arise
- Assist with project costing in support of pricing and project reporting
- Support forecasts, comprehensive budgeting, and long-range financial planning activities, deadlines, and deliverable creation
- Create, maintain, and update complex and dynamic financial models
- Manage internal controls
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university required in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 7 years' experience in related accounting roles
- Experience with financial management and control of manufacturing operations
- Strong cost accounting background
- Strong understanding of the application of accounting principles to projects centered around engineering, design, and providing services to commercial and government customers (especially revenue recognition)
- Experience in ERP systems, ERP implementations, and demonstrable knowledge of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting rules for revenue recognition
- Accounting for government contracts
Preferences:
- Master’s degree or equivalent preferred
- Experience with aerospace or defense industries preferred
- Proficiency in accounting software, preferably Deltek Costpoint
- Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) practices a plus
- CPA or CMA or other relevant designation a plus
