Job Title: Investigator District Attorney

Department/Division: Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office – Huerfano Branch

Reports To: Senior Investigator

Supervises: No supervision

Job Summary:

Performs a variety of complex criminal investigations for the District Attorney’s Office, including coordinating efforts with other law enforcement agencies and assisting in court and/or trial preparation and testimony.

Essential Job Functions: The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the job. Huerfano County retains the right to modify or change the duties and responsibilities of the job at any time.

· Direct supervision by Senior investigator.

· Maintains work records and case files and prepares reports, and other administrative documents.

· Works with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in the coordination of case activities and their development for legal action

· Works closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in locating, arresting and prosecuting fugitives

· Functions as a liaison with location and outside agencies when conducting major investigations to ensure prosecutorial standards are met.

· Networks with local and outside agencies

· Locates and interviews victims and witnesses, records their statements and type a report.

· Interrogates suspects

· writes reports of investigations and confers with attorneys regarding cases

· testifies in court; advises prosecuting attorneys of facts likely to be presented in testimony

· photographs crime scenes

· Provides office security

· Serves subpoenas and summons

· Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job

· Attends meetings, classes and training as required or requested by the supervisor

· Encouraged to recommend changes to improve procedures that would result in efficiencies, cost savings, and safety

· Communicate actively, clearly and regularly with supervisors and co-workers on all work-related topics

· Understands, observes and comply with all governmental, Huerfano County, and departmental policies, procedures, and protocols when performing job duties.

· Possesses excellent oral and written skills to communicate effectively.

· Effectively manages multiple projects at once

· Effectively deals with stressful situations

· Easily adapts to sudden and unexpected changes in work assignments

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of the laws and ordinances of the jurisdiction

· knowledge of State laws and how to research them

· knowledge of the criminal justice system

· knowledge of investigative methods, procedures and techniques

· knowledge of victim’s and suspects’ rights

· ability to investigate crimes impartially and to exercise good judgment in taking actions.

· Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.

· Writes clearly and concisely

· Works effectively with other employees

· Knowledge in weapons and handling skills and proficient in the use of numerous types of weapons.

Requirements

· High School diploma or GED equivalency required

· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in criminal justice or equivalent experience preferred.

· Successful completion of approved peace officer training or other comparable law enforcement skills and training deemed equivalent by administration required.

Experience

· Minimum of one-year law enforcement experience required.

Licenses and/or Certificates:

· Valid driver's license at the time of application and a valid Colorado driver's license at the time of hire required.

Special Requirements:

· Must successfully pass a background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 per year
