Job Summary
We're hiring outdoor guides with relevant experience to join our team in facilitating outdoor-oriented day and overnight programs for a local summer camp. Age groups vary from elementary school through high school seniors. All applicants are required by the State of California to complete a background check for this position.
The schedule is very flexible and allows you to sign up for the shifts that you want. You could choose to sign up for one 4 hour shift each week or you could do multiple overnights in one week, depending on your availability and how much you'd like to work. Perks include reimbursement for WFR/CPR certifications, flexible hours, competitive pay, and a summer spent in cool places!
Duties
- Lead groups of campers in various outdoor activities including camping, hiking, biking, backpacking, rock climbing, kayaking, and more.
- Be prepared to act as a first responder in case of emergency.
- Communicate effectively with both camp staff and campers while on trips to foster an environment of safety, respect, and fun.
- Communicate effectively with supervisor and co-guides throughout trip, including during preparation and debrief.
- Ensure before leaving on overnight trips that all food from the kitchen is properly packed and includes all necessary allergen-friendly provisions. Take the lead on cooking and clean-up for meals while on trips.
- Share knowledge and enthusiasm of the outdoors with campers.
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines during outdoor excursions.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with youth in an outdoor setting is preferred.
- Current CPR and Wilderness First Aid/Wilderness First Responsder certifications (If you do not have this, we can work with you to obtain your certifications prior to the summer).
- Ability to act as first response in the case of emergencies.
- Friendly and team-oriented attitude.
- Willingness to adapt and respond to dynamic environments.
- A passion for the outdoors and commitment to sharing the joys of nature with campers.
