GENERAL INTRODUCTION:
The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (Apostolorum Successores 8). He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him.” (Apostolorum Successores 177).
Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
NOTE: This position is appointed by the diocesan bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle and subject to Archdiocesan Policy pertaining to appointed positions. The supervisor of this position reserves the right to make necessary modifications to this position to reflect current and appropriate responsibilities.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:
Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Archdiocesan (Chancery and parish) human resources policies and procedures. Serves as a trusted advisor and coach for employees and leaders related to a variety of human resources topics including recruiting, development, compensation, engagement, organization design, change management, and employee relations. Advises, directs, and manages human resources staff and project teams, as necessary.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:
- Under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer, participates with other staff members in implementing the department's mission. This may include planning, developing, and evaluating the department’s programs and services to improve efficiency and service.
- Serves as a professional resource to employees and supervisors by providing feedback and advice on implementing human resources policies.
- Advises Archdiocesan staff in employee relations; provides meeting facilitation and mediation services between employees and supervisors to discuss performance or grievance issues.
- Assures that all elements of compensation are compliant and seeks to establish a consistent approach through use of position descriptions, process, etc.
- Collaborates with Payroll and Benefit Services Offices on payroll and benefit issues, initiatives and concerns having an HR overlap. This may include problem-solving, education, communication and consultation with parishes and schools.
- Participates in planning and delivering training to supervisors, clergy, and other staff. This may include developing materials and processes, presenting in-service workshops and, if required, providing one-on-one consultation.
- Provides consultation for all Archdiocesan entities in areas of performance management, e engagement, and development including secession planning.
- Advises leadership regarding organizational design, including change management and staffing.
- Responsible for remaining updated on key areas of employment law and regulations to assure compliance while providing guidance for Archdiocesan entities related to compliance.
- May directly supervise human resources staff or provide technical direction and mentorship.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Primary:
- Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
- Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
- Active member of a Catholic parish/faith community in good standing with the Church preferred.
Education:

BA in Human Resources or related field or directly equivalent experience in Human Resources.
Experience:
- At least five years’ experience as a human resources generalist with experience administering/implementing policies and procedures, employee relations, compensation, and training.
- Experience in analyzing and interpreting federal, state, and local employment law.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
- Supervisory or professional mentorship experience desired.
Other Elements:
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws as they relate to employment laws and regulations.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to make presentations and prepare reports.
- Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple
priorities.
- Familiar with HRIS systems and the use of reporting, analytics tools, audits for data integrity.
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.

Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
