Description
I. POSITION PURPOSE
Provide bookkeeping services for the parish family in accordance with Archdiocesan administration and finance policies and procedures. This position will serve specifically at two locations, The Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.
II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Maintains accounts payable and receivable ledgers; and prepares and submits financial statements to the PA for Administration for review.
B. Maintains all parish and school banking accounts, processes check requests and verifies authorization for expenditures in all program and operating accounts.
C. Reconciles bank statements on a monthly basis.
D. Reconciles credit card statements on a monthly basis.
E. Assists with processing staff payroll on a bi-weekly basis. Assures all leave balances are tracked appropriately and are accurate.
F. Accounts for all contributions for the parish and school on a weekly basis. Serves as the backup staff person for making the weekly deposits of contributions when needed.
G. Provides assistance to pastoral and school leaders and others as directed in the preparation of the annual parish and school budgets. Provides financial information including current budget allocations, year-to-date balances and anticipated financial needs for the future.
H. Serves as staff to the Parish Finance Council as requested.
I. Provides bookkeeping services and advice for those who direct the various fundraising efforts for the parish and school, including Annual Catholic Appeal, Sacrificial Giving, Special Collections, School Auction, and Jog-A-Thon.
J. Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for the bookkeeping profession. This may be accomplished by participating in Archdiocesan sponsored training, attendance at workshops and classes, reading appropriate materials and/or membership in local professional organizations.
K. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsibilities at the The Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish will be similar in nature with some slight modifications.
Qualifications
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A practicing Roman Catholic.
- An Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
- Proficient in the accounting software QuickBooks Online.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated organization, technical and time management skills, and ability to re-prioritize as needed.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
- Bookkeeping certification such as Certified Bookkeeper (CB) or Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) preferred.
- A CPA license is desirable but not mandatory.
- Professional and appropriate attire.
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
