OBJECTIVE: Coordinates Youth Ministry Programs in accordance with the Archdiocese of Seattle policies, and the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit scenarios in the areas of evangelization, catechesis, liturgy, sacraments, outreach, theology, scripture, and parish social activities. Creates, promotes, and fosters a positive teamwork environment with all parish staff and volunteers.
SCOPE: This position is exempt but has a varying schedule, hours per week will vary depending on the needs of the programs.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Observes Parish, Archdiocesan, and USCCB guidelines regarding Youth Ministry.
- Develops strategic plans for Youth Ministry program implementation in coordination with the Priest, Youth Ministry Catechists, and volunteers.
- Ensures the Youth Ministry Programs include activities for middle-school and high-school students that assure their spiritual growth and developing relationship with Jesus.
- Develops and implements programs that prepare youth to receive Sacraments, leading the youth toward a more intimate union with Christ and a deepened familiarity with the Holy Spirit to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life.
- Empowers the youth to live as disciples of Christ in today’s world and draws them to participate and share their leadership skills serving others.
- Ensures the summer session includes innovative and creative recruitment strategies to increase and maintain participation.
- Promotes the importance of and encourages youth to attend Sunday Mass weekly and Eucharistic Adoration.
- Research appropriate Youth Catechism curriculums and resources that will inspire, motivate and encourage lifelong faith formation practices.
- Keeps parents informed of youth programs and activities and develops opportunities to involve them in the youth ministry.
- Recruits and trains adult volunteers to be Youth Ministry Catechists or other program support volunteers.
- Prepares annual budget and manages Youth Ministry revenue and expenses to stay in line with budgeted amounts.
- Plans and coordinates with administration staff the use of parish facilitates for all meetings and events.
- Works closely with office staff to process and maintain accurate records of registration, fees, and sacramental records.
- Submits all cash/checks to the PAA no later than the next day after receipt.
- Informs the parish community of youth events via parish web site, social media, bulletin, and lectors’ announcements.
- Evaluates annually the entire Youth Ministry program in coordination with the Priest, catechists, volunteers, and youth.
- Creates and fosters a team-work environment with all parish staff and attends parish staff meetings reporting on matters pertaining to the Youth Ministry programs.
- Takes advantage of formation opportunities and retreats for ongoing professional, spiritual, catechetical, and personal growth as approved by supervisor.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Pass and keep a current background check on file.
- Participate in all Safe Environment Training as prescribed by the Archdiocese of Seattle and report that training to the Bilingual Administrative Assistant.
- Maintain current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED operation and have a current Food Handlers Card. (training will be provided)
- Maintains a level of confidentiality and professionalism with regards to work/church related issues.
- Ongoing professional development which may include a Catechetical Certification.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Is a fully initiated Catholic Christian in good standing with the Church
- Demonstrates a living faith within the Church
- Has knowledge of the Catholic Christian Tradition of doctrine, worship and familiarity with scripture
- Must understand how people grow and mature both academically and spiritually
- Degree, certification, training, and experience in teaching or leading groups especially related to faith formation or catechesis.
- Bilingual English/Spanish desired not required.
Salary : $60,000 - $62,000
