A Pittsburgh Technology Council Tech 50 winner for Company Culture, 412 Food Rescue is leveraging technology to solve last-mile food recovery challenges through our groundbreaking Food Rescue Hero app, which has mobilized over 56,000 volunteer drivers. Our zero waste kitchen, the Good Food Project, is seeking a motivated Kitchen Manager to join our innovative team. In this role, you'll ensure meaningful impact and engagement by crafting healthy meals from rescued foods and cultivating relationships with individual and corporate group volunteers. As a key member of our Initiatives department, you’ll help drive our ambitious growth strategy by leading a sustainable and impactful production kitchen, supporting and strengthening our other food recovery programs; and helping us define and refine our strategies through data-driven decisions within an organization that has been recognized by Fast Company, .ORG, and Stanford Social Innovation Review.
Position Overview
The Good Food Project Manager is a pivotal role within the Initiatives team: exploring diverse approaches to impacting food insecurity while fostering positive volunteer and donor engagement.
Managing a production kitchen offering daily hands-on volunteer experiences, and maintaining the relationships, facilities, and information required to sustain an innovative program, this role blends strategic and creative thinking, as well as strong relationship skills to positively impact food security and stakeholder engagement.
You’ll oversee a unique food production facility, its partner and vendor relations, and a rotating team of volunteers, as well as collecting and reporting on data for the Initiatives department.

Primary Responsibilities
Kitchen Management & Impact
- Daily management of ~5 volunteers in complex food preparation
- Maximize quality and efficiency of food preparation and distribution
- Upkeep product and facilities in accordance with industry best standards and practices
- Support Advancement and Community Engagement Manager in corresponding with individual volunteers
- Consistently provide a safe, memorable, and inclusive volunteer experience
- Represent and share the values and mission of 412 Food Rescue to all stakeholders
- Assist and support cross-departmental campaigns and digital communication strategies
- Maintain and manage production, impact and waste data for Good Food Project, oversee data aggregation for all Initiatives Department programs
- Generate reports and actionable insights to drive program decisions
- Align program strategies and activities with organizational goals and campaigns
- Represent Initiatives department in Operations Management meetings
- Minimum 2 years of professional kitchen experience and/or culinary training
- Minimum 1 year food service management experience
- Servsafe Manager Certification (can be obtained upon hire)
