The Operations Equipment Specialist will be located our of our Bayport, TX facility and is responsible for the operation of 165 trailers, 500 tank cars, and 160 ISO containers, transfer carts, hoses, and various spare parts in addition to maintaining a diversified fleet of leased transportation equipment. Scheduling and implementation of prescheduled maintenance and inspection of owned equipment must be conducted on an ongoing basis with pre-approval of detailed repair and inspection orders issued by this individual. Transportation tax records for movement of owned rail cars must be developed and paid. Compliance with new regulations must be met requiring modifications and necessary approval to assure existing fleet continues to operate with minimal down time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine tasks such as planning, initiating, organizing, and managing routine maintenance of Evonik owned and leased equipment in the field, customer site, and terminals as well as keep documentation for both preventative/predictive inspections to ensure all regulatory requirements are met
- Manage AO transportation equipment to support production schedules (empty and loaded), sales forecasts, inventories, and customer requirements
- Review, track against budget and forecast, determine irregular trend, and approve invoices when necessary. Manage costs and expenses responsibly within the general guidelines and budgets. Create projects and management projects through completion. Assists in developing cost analysis for capital requests
- Maintain spare part list and documentation for standard, complex, and non-standard technical and transportation equipment. Ensure that equipment documentation is accurate and purchased equipment conforms to specifications. Order parts for all equipment repairs
- Manage equipment inspections dates in Fleet Management platform
- Select, supervise, and evaluate outside contractors, vendors, and third-party terminals. Provide accurate material, labor and engineering estimates for all equipment projects. Implement and oversee projects to ensure timely completion and within project planned costs.
- Size and select equipment to be used in equipment projects. Prepare material specifications to ensure material is compatible with product and review vendor equipment drawings prior to fabrication to prevent costly fabrication errors. Coordinate construction and testing of each system to ensure that all work is performed according to the specified requirements in the frame required.
- Respond to transportation related emergency issues. Provide technical guidance to incident commanders and participate as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- 5-7 years similar work experience
- Bulk transportation equipment (rail cars, tank trucks, portable tanks, etc) experience required
- Chemical industry experience strongly preferred
- Specifics include:
- Utilize best in class practice and establish quality and quantity measures for equipment modifications
- Work towards changing regulations concerning transport equipment that impair our ability to ship our products in a cost-effective yet safe and environmentally acceptable manner
- Establish KPI’s for AO’s bulk equipment to achieve zero customer complaints concerning customer deliveries
- Develop product-handling equipment, which keeps pace with AO’s general business direction
- Implement corrective action plans to reverse negative high cost patterns
- Assure that the Transport Equipment remain operational and are positioned to handle all shipments properly assigned to the facility and are thoroughly equipped to handle customer needs
- Capable of responding to Emergency Response Incidents in accordance with regulatory requirements
-Develop long term strategy for equipment maintenance and periodic inspections
