The position is accountable for the overall management of technical area topics which include maintenance, contractor management, Capex planning and execution, automation, electrical and instrumentation, spare parts & consumable inventory management, process & equipment support for production, planning & scheduling, and process safety for the site. Beside that SmartOperation and digital topics must be supported and the implementation monitored to increase efficiency and improve production costs. The site is a multi-customer site which includes a Joint Venture partner. The position is accountable that the required plant availability is achieved and maintenance costs stay within the allocated budgets for the Biolys plants, Omega-3 fatty acid plants and the Utilities area which includes the shared assets between the two companies. This position is responsible to provide the strategic 1 & 5 year planning for maintenance and Capex.
This position is a member of the Blair Leadership Team, with direct management of the engineering and maintenance departments which support five plants between the Veramaris, Biolys and Shared areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership to the technical area team by prioritizing and
assigning to activities, by ensuring alignment with production and
other departments, and identification of internal and external
resources.
- Provide resource loading in accordance with team member responsibilities.
- Direct supervision for the Maintenance Manager, Project Managers,
- Plant Engineers, E&I Engineer, Automation Engineers, and Janitor.
- Development of the organization's capability (technical and people skills).
- Ensure the execution of Capex and Maintenance according to Evonik standards (ex: Contractor Management, Investment Policy, Proper Documentation, Procurement Documents, and all Evonik Binding Technical Documents).
- Provide support for the facility on complex process, project, and troubleshooting topics.
- Provide support, challenge, and improve topics related to process safety.
- Establish and maintain a network with other Engineering Managers in the company, use this to contribute to other organizations and build up knowledge within Blair’s organization.
- Provide support, reviews, and assignment of task for MOC's, pre startup safety reviews, incident investigations, and NCR's
- Define and utilize key process indicators to drive continual improvement in maintenance and project work.
- Ensure the execution and continual improvement of the site
- Mechanical Integrity program and Critical Device Management.
- Organize and provide the strategic 1 & 5 year planning and budgets for maintenance and Capex.
- Uphold all HACCP and ISO 9001 and RC14001 policies along with
- ASC-MSC requirements. Support internal and external audits.
- Ensuring compliance with all OSHA regulations and create a work environment which fosters safety and the promotion of safe working practices. Improve the EHSQ program drawing on the best practices of the parent organization.
REQUIREMENTS
- B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree is required
- Min. 10 years of experience in process and manufacturing plants.
- Broad base of knowledge in all technical disciplines
- Job has the complexity of leading an engineering and maintenance staff for a multi customer, multi product site which includes a Joint Venture Partner.
- Experience in leading, managing and development of an engineering and maintenance organization
- Skills and knowledge in understanding and managing of technical staff within safety and environmental regulatory
- requirements
- Skills and knowledge in financial tools for cost control and budgeting with cost allocations to Shared, Veramari and Biolys areas
- Experience implementing and maintaining systems such as RBM (Risk Based Maintenance), Open Text, etc.
- Strong leadership skills and style
- Development of talent pipeline through engineering programs such as ETAD, IPREP and Rotational engineers.
- Support internship programs to generate interest in Evonik careers at targeted engineering schools.
