Job Description:
A Public Works Civil Inspector is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality and compliance of civil engineering projects within public infrastructure. Their role is crucial in maintaining the integrity and safety of public works projects, including but not limited to areas of work on roads, bridges, underground utilities and trenching, concrete, curbs and gutters, retaining walls, soil nailing, ADA compliance, and drainage systems. This position would be located in the Santa Barbara County Coastal Area.
Responsibilities:
- Project Inspection: Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to approved plans, specifications, and regulatory standards.
- Quality Assurance: Verify that materials and workmanship meet required quality standards and contract specifications.
- Documentation: Ensuring that contractors enforce contractor's safety plans.
- Safety Monitoring: Ensure that construction sites comply with safety regulations and that proper safety photographic evidence.
- Communication: Serve as a liaison between contractors, engineers, and public works departments to address issues and provide updates.
- Problem Resolution: Identify and report any discrepancies or issues, and work with relevant parties to implement corrective actions.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed inspection reports and contribute to project status meetings.
Qualifications:
- 5 Years of Experience as a Public Works Civil Inspector.
- Understanding of roads, grading, asphalt, concrete, trenching, retaining walls, underground utilities, storm drain, bridges, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, etc.
- Proficient computer, writing, organizational, communication skills, good problem-solving capabilities and interpersonal skills.
- Must be local to Santa Barbara County.
- Must be able to start immediately.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, an individual must be able to lift 50 pounds, able to bend and stoop, able to stand for long periods of time, able to walk on uneven surfaces, and work in adverse weather conditions (i.e. hot and cold climates).
Job Type:
- Part-time (three days a week)
- Located in along the coast in Santa Barbara County
4LEAF anticipates the salary range for this position will be between $75 and $85 per hour, commensurate with experience and depending on the location of the public works project the staff will be assigned.
