4M is currently looking for a Payload Rack Officer (PRO) for our NASA team in Huntsville, AL.

Description:

The PRO is responsible for the configuration of ExPRESS payload racks in the International Space Station's Destiny laboratory, and for coordinating the configuration of systems resources to all NASA payload racks. When a new payload is installed, the PRO configures the rack interfaces to properly support the payload. The PRO also monitors the health and status of both the payload and the rack and, if necessary, coordinates troubleshooting of the payload support structure and payload interfaces.

The PRO also is responsible for managing all ground commanding of U.S. payload systems and experiments on the station. The PRO manages the command link, receives and sends command files to the mass storage device and configures the system to allow flight controllers in the Payload Operations Center and remote users to send commands to their equipment on the space station.

Job Summary:

The Payload Rack Officer (PRO) provides real-time, front room support for timeline execution, configuration, and troubleshooting of the on-board payload facility racks and platforms, as well as commanding interface for payloads. Tasks and assignments tend to be complex, non-routine and/or require a greater level of expertise. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and process to meet goals outlined. Duties are performed under limited supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Responsible for managing the operations of the ISS onboard payload facility racks to support payload operations, as well as the onboard resources that are required for payloads to operate within these racks.
  • Responsible for maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the ISS onboard electrical, thermal, power, and command systems that are configured, monitored, and managed to support real-time science payload operations.
  • PRO team supports real-time operations seven days a week, twenty-four hours per day.

Education:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Science
