Job Description:
4P Consulting Inc. is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist SR (Architectural Historian) to join our team in Atlanta, GA. The successful candidate will have 3 to 5 years of professional experience in architectural history, historic preservation, or a related field. This position requires knowledge of Georgia's architectural styles and typologies, along with expertise in conducting background research, writing cultural resource reports, and performing National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility determinations and assessments. The Architectural Historian will work on projects related to historic preservation, cultural resource documentation, and compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and other relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research, documentation, and analysis of historic properties in Georgia, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, including the NHPA and NEPA/GEPA.
- Perform National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility determinations, effect assessments, and architectural surveys.
- Conduct onsite field reviews, site assessments, and architectural surveys for various projects.
- Prepare and submit detailed cultural resource reports that meet professional standards.
- Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders on historic preservation projects, providing technical expertise and guidance.
- Manage projects, including proposal preparation, budgeting, and timelines.
- Provide expertise in the Section 106 consultation process and contribute to the preparation of environmental assessments.
- Conduct cultural resource photography and mapping for GIS data collection and analysis.
- Demonstrate expertise in ArcGIS programs for mapping and spatial analysis.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal preservation standards, including maintaining documentation for the Historic American Building Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), and Permanent Archival Record (PAR).
- Ability to qualify as an expert witness in architectural history matters.
- Review and assess the impact of utility projects on historic properties, particularly in relation to electric utilities and linear utility projects.
Required Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years of professional experience in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a related field.
- An undergraduate degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or a related field.
- Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards 36 CFR 61 as an Architectural Historian.
- Knowledge of Georgia’s architectural styles, typologies, and history.
- Experience in writing and preparing cultural resource reports at a professional level.
- Familiarity with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 106 consultation process.
- Strong experience with cultural resource photography and basic GIS mapping and data collection.
- Experience managing projects, preparing proposals, and budgeting.
- Ability to conduct field assessments and architectural surveys.
- Proficient in ArcGIS software and mapping tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or a related field.
- Experience with electric utilities, linear utility projects, and associated regulations.
- Knowledge of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and/or Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
- Experience with HABS/HAER and Permanent Archival Record (PAR) documentation.
- Experience with deed and property research.
- Experience with USACE permitting and landscape design.
Business Needs:
- Standard drug screening and background checks required.
- Candidate must be willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and/or separation protocol agreement to support confidential projects related to GPC Company-owned renewable projects.
- This is a long-term, dedicated position with a contract duration of up to 36 months (negotiable). We are looking for a single dedicated individual rather than a rotational position.
