Experience:
- 0-5 years of related experience.
- Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical engineering preferred) or professional engineer license.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the design of Southern Company’s Transmission and Distribution Substations.
- Provide engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for substation projects, ensuring a focus on safety, quality, scheduling, and cost control.
- Create a safe work environment by prioritizing safety in all activities.
- Understand processes involved in substation control planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance.
- Understand the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in substation design, construction, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with substation design practices and work processes.
- Utilize all software applications related to substation design.
- Understand and apply NESC and Southern Company design standards.
- Support the development of design standards and criteria for the system.
- Provide support to construction and maintenance teams during daily operations and emergency restoration of failed equipment.
- Estimate materials for transmission projects.
- Prepare and transmit construction packages, supporting specifications.
Skills and Expertise Required:
- Introductory engineering knowledge and basic problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions based on procedure, with review from the supervisor.
- Basic understanding of Control Design tools and applications, such as AutoCAD Electrical, TEAMS, Stomps, SCST Vault, and Maximo.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff, and vendors.
Additional Requirements:
- Approximately 25% travel required.
