What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Apparel Designer position at 5.11 Tactical?
We’re looking for a Senior Apparel Designer to create original, disruptive, and performance-driven apparel that pushes the 5.11 brand - and the industry - forward. In this role, you’ll bring deep expertise in technical garment construction, material innovation, fit, and function. You’ll drive the creative and technical vision for new products, working cross-functionally with Product Management, Product Development, and Merchandising to bring bold ideas to life.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead apparel design from concept to production, focusing on innovation, materials, performance, and function.
- Research trends, markets, and materials to bring fresh ideas and technical innovation to the product line.
- Participate in fittings, proto reviews, and product meetings with end users to ensure design intent meets real-world needs.
- Create detailed technical sketches, tech packs, and design documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Technical Design and our in-house sewing facility to refine fit, feasibility, and garment construction precision.
- Ensure all products meet quality standards and are clear of intellectual property concerns.
- Design within brief requirements for pricing, sourcing, and brand guidelines.
- Maintain brand consistency in design language, functionality, and end-user focus across all projects.
- Present concepts and design direction, including material, trim, branding, and color recommendations, in key milestone meetings.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed to support development and production.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Design or related field (Industrial Design background is a plus).
- 5-10 years of apparel design experience, preferably with a focus on technical/performance product.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, technical fabrics, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and AI rendering platforms.
- Experience with 3D design platforms (especially NURBS formats) is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with North American and EU standards and certifications (NFPA, EN, etc.) is a plus.
- Sewing and pattern-making skills are a bonus.
- Proficient with MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook) and PLM systems.
Pay Range: $80,000-$95,000 annually, plus bonus.
