JOB SUMMARY
The Intermediate Accountant details account analysis and financial activities. This role collaborates with the team for process enhancements, financial reporting, and other special projects. The individual works with other accounting teams, business units and management to ensure accurate data is reported throughout all systems, financial statements and reporting. The Intermediate Accountant reports to the Controller and is significantly involved in financial statements preparation, financial reviews, and various quarterly presentations.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Financials/Monthly Close Tasks
- Reconciles, reviews and analyzes data from carrier close reports, updates summary/breakout files and makes entries.
- Completes monthly roll and updates month end financial files.
- Reviews various claims reserve balances and works with management to true up reserves.
- Reviews unearned and earned premiums to ensure compliancy with accounting standards.
- Processes payment to/from carriers and enters corresponding entries.
- Compiles and reviews financial highlights and executive summary files and send to Clayton management
- Completes/updates various monthly end financial files and consolidated financial reports.
Accounting Operations
- Reviews all invalid and unprocessed subledger transactions ensuring data integrity and compliance.
- Reviews rule maintenance in subledger systems to ensure that processes are accurate and efficient.
- Works on systems enhancements, as assigned to validate they are completed and tested timely.
- Builds, using various Oracles tools, financial reports for the accounting team and HFA management.
- Processes and image bond requests from all Clayton business units
- Reconciles, ages and researches claims checks and updates various end of month claims reporting files.
- Reconciles cash and holding accounts, researches aged items and requests refunds as needed.
Quarterly/Annual Tasks
- Compiles various reporting and data analyzation for claims/agency management.
- Assist Controller and outside auditors with the company’s standalone year-end financial audit.
- Works with accounting team and agency management to compile 10-year budget in Oracle.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
- Experience: 2-4 year of experience required
- Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with Excel, including formulas and advanced features
- Querying skills, knowledge of Sequel ViewPoint, Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), AS400, Accounting related ERP System a plus
- Ability to logically understand query results and analyze data effectively and efficiently
- Open to receive and implement feedback
- Attention to detail, organizational and problems solving skills, and the ability to manage deadlines
- Ability to work in a team environment and also work independently
- Motivated and self-starter
- Good sense of urgency and follow up
- Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting responsibilities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Must be comfortable with various forms of communication including but not limited to person to person, email, Teams, over the phone, and Zoom.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information at all times.
- Will work in a state-of-the-art indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
