Behavior Support Specialist

 

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

 

Directs and evaluates the emotional/behavioral development of identified students. Encourages the students to reach their fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Instructional Capacity

  • Maintain records as required cooperative/corporation policy; maintains professional ethics.
  • Essential functions should correspond to those of the classroom teacher.
  • Fulfills the same time schedules as all district teachers as to the time of arrival and departure from school.
  • Is aware of current methods of instruction as they relate to students with behavioral needs.
  • Recommends and helps implement behavior modification techniques as needed in order to promote positive behavior patterns.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement behavior plans by suggestions for students with daily activities.
  • Provides modeling and coaching for staff of techniques to support positive behaviors for students.
  • Serves as a resource person to school staff, parents, and the community.
  • Gives clear and concise instructions.
  • Attends meetings (faculty, seminars, conferences, workshops, and so forth) as adopted by the corporation calendar unless excused by the principal.

Planning & Professional Learning

  • Serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning promoting positive behaviors

Student Support

  • Support school staff for program implementation of student's IEP.
  • Provides direct to students to support their behavior needs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED

Educational Requirements

  • Experience working with children with significant behavioral needs.
  • Preferred:  Registered Behavioral Technician Certification
  • Preferred: At Least 3 years experience in a school or behavioral setting for children. 

 

 Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both adults and students.
  • Demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students.
