About the Role
Renasant Bio is seeking a self-motivated medicinal chemistry leader capable of driving projects from hit generation through development candidate selection in a startup environment. The candidate should be a self-motivated and influential leader with a strong record of accomplishment in medicinal chemistry and CRO (Contract Research Organization) oversight.
This newly created role will report directly to our Senior Vice President, Chemistry.
\n- Apply the key principles of medicinal chemistry, literature precedent, and drug design to direct medicinal chemistry programs from hit finding to development candidate selection or series go/no go decisions
- Contribute to setting the overall drug discovery strategy and long-term pipeline development
- Present the rationale, strategy, and updates of the program chemistry efforts to scientists in other disciplines
- Drive design efforts; understand standard medicinal chemistry computational tools and can integrate the information from these tools into the design and evaluation of proposed targets
- Manage chemistry CROs; demonstrate good strategic thinking in allocating resources and prioritizing series
- Reduce ideas to practice quickly, optimize the design, make, test, analysis cycle
- Maintain an excellent record, including updating our data warehouse
- Contribute effectively to patent, report, and scientific publication writing
- PhD in organic chemistry or related fields with 7 years of experience in pharmaceutical / biotech setting.
- Team player with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience functioning in a multidisciplinary, dynamic and highly matrixed environment
- Effectively collaborate with scientists/ teammates with diverse background
- Demonstrate a strong command of basic biology, pharmacology, ADME issues, and series SAR
- Strong track record of problem-solving skills and scientific creativity in synthetic and medicinal chemistry as evidenced by a significant publication record, filed patents and presentations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Prior experience successfully leading phenotypic projects from hit finding to development candidate selection would be a plus
- Prior experience in chemical biology, target deconvolutions strategies would a plus
