Lead Lab Technician

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists and identifies opportunities for improvement and executes improvement plans approved by the General Supervisor.
• Supervises the orientation, training of lab staff to ensure that all competencies, policies, established practices and standards are followed and adhered to in partnership with General Supervisor and Technical Supervisor
• Communicates job expectations and conducts individual and group coaching and training interventions for new and tenured lab employees
• Supports General Supervisor and Technical Supervisor to facilitate weekly huddles and monthly meetings.
• Collaborates with General Supervisor and Technical Supervisor to guarantee workflow in labs, and prioritizes and shifts duties as necessary to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
• Follow through on programs, practices and team leadership to improve operations, staff retention and employee engagement.
• Monitors site metrics; turnaround times, reruns, rejections, sample volume and expenditures.
• Assist with addressing individual or team performance deficiencies in collaboration with Multi-site Managers and Provider
• Participates in the development and leads the execution of UC goals and objectives with General Supervisor. Clearly communicates goals and objectives to employees.
• Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization working effectively as a team member with other members of management and the clinic staff
• Partners with leadership and provider to actively recognize and reward the Site team and individual Site team members for meeting goals and demonstrating behaviors consistent with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
• Supports pilot initiatives such as, but not limited to new systems, new processes, etc.
• Resolves clinic  inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner by consulting with general supervisor, technical supervisor and Regional Lab Operations Manager
• In collaboration with the General Supervisor and Technical Supervisor, ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and best practices.
• Ensures the office is OSHA compliant and housekeeping and preventative equipment maintenance schedules are followed.
• Demonstrates positive culture, capacity to lead people, build strong teams, and creates an exceptional patient experience.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred
• May be required to work alternate shifts
• May be required to work in a staff position to fill open shifts.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Strong presentation, employee management, and project implementation skills.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• At least 2 years of experience and expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Demonstrated ability of utilizing and executing administrative systems and processes consistently and proficiently to contribute to operational success
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus
• Ability to accurately and efficiently use Health Information Technology (HIT) Systems, including running reports.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field required and 1 year training/experience in high complexity testing or Associate Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology and have at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing.

MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS

• Close mental and visual attention required for planning or directing fairly complex work methods or operations that obtain size, shape, or physical qualities of product.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend, climb, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions of hands and/or wrists.
• Requires some physical work; lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.

DIRECT REPORTING

• Reports to the Lab Supervisor

• Pay starting at $27/hr
