Job Summary
As an Ammonia Refrigeration Technician, you will be responsible for operating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing ammonia refrigeration systems and related utilities within a food manufacturing facility. This role requires a deep understanding of ammonia refrigeration, general maintenance, and electrical systems. You will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure the efficiency and safety of our refrigeration operations.
Key Responsibilities
Ammonia Refrigeration System Maintenance:
- Operate, test, troubleshoot, and repair ammonia refrigeration systems, sub-systems, and related auxiliary processes.
- Perform planned maintenance on ammonia refrigeration and utility systems.
- Conduct daily rounds and inspections of temperatures and the condition of the ammonia system.
System Operation & Compliance:
- Maintain material integrity in refrigeration and utility rooms following best practices.
- Execute ammonia system pump downs for repairs or replacements.
- Complete all required documentation, including PSM-related modifications, Work Orders (WOs), and system operation notes.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies (e.g., Lockout/Tagout), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations.
Technical Support & Additional Duties:
- Operate and maintain spiral freezers.
- Perform chemical tests on boilers and condenser towers.
- Assist with any other duties as assigned by the Maintenance/Refrigeration Manager.
Requirements
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of ammonia refrigeration experience in a food manufacturing facility.
- Familiarity with general maintenance, electrical, and electronic systems is required.
Certification:
- Ammonia Certification from GCAP (Garden City Ammonia Program) or RETA (Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association).
Physical & Safety Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a respirator fit test and pulmonary function test.
- Completion of a 24-hour hazmat class is required.
Skills:
- Strong ability to work both independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
