Job Specific Details and Tasks: The duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Operates fixed and portable radiographic equipment to produce routine diagnostic medical images. Computes techniques and adjusts control panel settings such as kilovoltage, milliamperage, exposure time, and focal spot size.
• Performs and/or assists in all angiographic and interventional imaging procedures as well as myelography, arthrography and venography.
• Prepares and positions patient, and operates/monitors imaging devices during procedures.
Utilizes immobilization devices and radiation protective measures during the operation of imaging equipment.
• Evaluates radiographs for technical accuracy and quality. Assures that studies are properly identified and filed in patient film jackets.
• Completes required quality control and quality assurance records, and summarizes services rendered for statistical reports.
• Verifies the procedure(s) performed as indicated by the physician on the superbill.
• Utilizes physical assessment skills, monitoring devices (pulse, respiration, blood pressure, EKG), intravenous care and aseptic techniques in providing patient care.
• Ensures that supply levels in the procedure rooms are adequate, and notifies the individual responsible for ordering replenishment stock when appropriate.
• Selects imaging protocols and required accessories, and makes adjustments based on the specific examination requirements. Records and processes the image. Manipulates the recorded image using computer applications.
• Assists physicians with fluoroscopic, c-arm, interventional, and special examinations. Instructs patients preparing for procedures. Prepares and assists with contrast media administration.
Maintains emergency response cart. Assists physician in treating reactions to contrast material.  Prepares sterile supplies and equipment.
• Operates accessory equipment as directed.
• Operates radiographic equipment in sterile environments, such as surgical radiographic and fluoroscopic support.
• Performs general diagnostic imaging activities. Cleans and inspects equipment. Receives patients, schedules appointments, prepares and processes examination requests and related records, and files images and reports. Enters and maintains data in radiology information systems and electronic health systems.
• Reviews images to ensure quality standards are met.
• Performs equipment quality control checks. Monitors personnel to ensure protective procedures such as radiation safety, hazardous material communications, and Air Force Occupational Safety and Health programs are followed. Performs tests on radiation protection equipment.
Trains and assesses staff and student competence, monitors appropriateness of care and completeness of examination requests.
• Performs various administrative duties such as uploading, faxing and scanning patient documentation utilizing electronic health care systems.
• Performs quality control duties such as arriving, departing and transcribing orders. Operates image viewing system and manipulates studies as required.
• Assist IR providers as directed
• Ensure sterile technique is maintained. Clean equipment on a regular basis in accordance with MTF policy. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for diagnostic procedures. Recommend necessary repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.
• Knowledge of Radiation, Electrical, Application software and Mechanical Safety, Warning labels and symbols, and Maintenance and cleaning of the Cath Lab Suite. Knowledge of Ultrasound physics; techniques of operating specialized ultrasound components and equipment; and transducer characteristics, differences, and use.
• Knowledge of basic IR equipment; such as names of wires, catheters and critical equipment for various exams. (i.e.,chest tubes, suction devices and tubing).

Work Schedule:

Various (8, 10, 12 hour) rotating shifts, any day of the week

Occasional On-Call and very limited Call-Back

 

Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: Must have a completed high school or general education development equivalency. Must have completed an accredited Radiologic Technologist course.

* Experience: At least 2 years of experience in radiology, 6 months job related experience in the performance of angiography and other complex radiological examination for routine and advanced procedures or Experience working in a Cath Lab.

* Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
 Problem Solving: Job requires a moderate level of problem-solving. Standard methods, guides, and procedures are generally available.
 Internal Contacts: Internal contacts necessary to effectively explain and interpret information for others inside the Hospital.
 Independent Judgement: Work generally has standard procedures and instructions but the incumbent must organize work and set priorities.
 Strong Communication Skills: The HCW communicates pertinent information at multiple levels of leadership (Nurse, Physician, and Lead Tech). Receive patients and explain procedures, providing humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate fear of examination.

* Clinical Licensure/Registration/Certification: Current Registration as a Radiologic Technologist through ARRT.
* Life Support Certification: Possess and maintain a current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
