What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resource Advocate position at 7hills Homeless Center?
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Serves as initial contact for Day Resource Center guests. Completes all tasks necessary to promote efficient and appropriate delivery of guest services in a safe and clean environment.
ESSSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
Guest Services:
- Warmly welcome all Day Resource Center guests.
- Monitor and maintain guest sign in logs each morning.
- Distribute and/or log daily all guest services, including but not limited to, meals, clothing, laundry, showers, food bags, OTC medication, camping gear, hygiene items, etc.
- Assign lockers as available, ensure guest reads/signs agreement, and keep wait list up to date.
- Maintain coffee station.
- Monitor day room and / service building, running the front desk, assess client needs, providing clothing, camping gear, mail, showers, laundry, etc.
- Maintain tidiness of kitchen, front desk, day room, clothing room, laundry room, showers, food pantry, and outdoor areas (i.e. sweep, organize, empty trash etc.)
- Clean up after all meals and at end of day (i.e. wipe counters, put away food, wash dishes, mop floors, etc.) and participate in staff bathroom cleaning rotation.
Advocate Services:
- Provide light touch/follow up guest services, including but not limited to, identification assistance, benefits assistance, assist in completing applications, scheduling appointments, providing and/or scheduling transportation, ordering prescription medication, and encouraging guest self-sufficiency.
- Work with Case Managers to ensure light touch services / check-ins are completed.
- Complete proper documentation of all services provided, including but not limited to, referrals, financial assistance, appointment and transportation scheduling, etc.
- Complete routine guest updates when necessary.
- Complete intakes with guests as needed when requested by supervisor.
Stewardship & Collaboration:
- Warmly welcome all volunteers, donors, and community members and assist with inquiries.
- Thank donors, volunteers, and partners for their contribution and complete and provide a donation receipt as applicable.
- Complete data entry accurately, regularly, and on-time as requested.
- Serve as point-person with community-based pharmacy.
Communication:
- Answer phone(s), respond to emails, provide information on services or transfer calls as needed.
- Check voice mail and return calls or delegate accordingly.
- Utilize walkie-talkies daily to communicate with team members on site at the Day Resource Center, and ensure your walkie-talkie is at the charge station prior to the end of your shift.
- Ensure the delivery of quality and appropriate services through participation in any team meetings, monthly staff meetings, and ongoing training / professional development opportunities.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with guests and demonstrate sound judgement.
- Notify supervisor in case of any emergency / crisis and proceed as instructed.
- Interact with local emergency services as needed for guests in crisis.
Leadership Development:
- Enforce safety and behavior guidelines.
- Sort and stock donations. *
- Assign tasks and monitor work of community services workers and volunteers.
- Attend professional development opportunities / trainings as requested / required.
- Maintain up to date resource lists, including but not limited to, affordable housing, local community meals, and local food pantries.
- Maintain up to date employment and community announcements boards.
- Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor.
*May delegate these duties to a volunteer, student intern, or community service worker as appropriate.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Minimum high school diploma or GED.
- Valid Arkansas State Driver’s License.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel and Outlook), and ability to learn other programs as required.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to conduct one’s self in an assertive, professional manner, as well as exhibit professional boundaries.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to tolerate a challenging and fast paced environment.
- Working knowledge of addiction/mental illness and how it might impact guest behavior.
- Working knowledge of the issues surrounding homelessness and poverty.
- Knowledge of community resources.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIORNMENT:
- Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.
- Must be able to participate in physical activities throughout the facility, on the property, and / or community.
