Job purpose

To provide Phlebotomist services for 8-koi; a diverse Florida based service and consulting company that has been providing outstanding results for our clients for over 17-years now.

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for drawing blood from patients for diagnostic, transfusion, or donation purposes while ensuring patient comfort and safety. The Phlebotomist must adhere to strict medical and safety protocols, maintain accurate records, and provide excellent patient service.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Perform patient phlebotomy to include inpatient ward rounds, inpatient and outpatient, Emergency Department (ED), STAT, as soon as possible (ASAP), and timed draws.
  • Perform sample processing and send out preparation.
  • Perform venipunctures, fingersticks, and heel sticks to collect blood samples from patients of all ages.
  • Properly label and store blood samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Verify patient identification and medical history to ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • As part of safety, positively identifies patients prior to sample collection and samples prior to testing or aliquoting
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterility of equipment, workstations, and collection areas.
  • Follow established procedures for handling biohazardous materials and disposing of waste safely.
  • Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients to ease anxiety about the blood collection process.
  • Work closely with healthcare providers and laboratory personnel to ensure timely and accurate test results.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of supplies and order replacements as necessary.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and OSHA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality and workplace safety.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, patient scheduling, and reporting as needed.
  • Independently tests, evaluates, documents, and reports patient testing and Quality Control (QC); identifies, documents, and resolves any collection, processing, testing or reporting issues

  • Assures patient-centered care and provides service in a manner that is professional and will avoid complaints from all stakeholders and customers
  • Complete VA Privacy and Information Security Awareness and Rules of Behavior annually
  • Complete VHA Privacy and HIPAA Focused Training annually

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification in phlebotomy preferred.
  • Must have three (3) years of recent Phlebotomy experience
  • Completion of a recognized phlebotomy training program.
  • Certification from an accredited organization (e.g., ASCP, NHA, AMT) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and blood collection techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift light equipment when needed.
  • Current Immunizations within prior to the first duty day
    • Tuberculosis Skin Test (TST) or interferon-gamma release assays (IGRA)
    • MEASLES, MUMPS, & RUBELLA TESTING
    • VARICELLA
    • ACELLULAR PERTUSSIS
    • INFLUENZA
    • COVID-19
    • OSHA REGULATION CONCERNING OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE TO BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS
  • ACLS/BLS – Every 2 years
  • Authorized to work in the US

Working conditions

Phlebotomists will work Day, Evening, and limited Weekend and Holiday shifts. Phlebotomists will NOT be working any Night Shifts. The employee may also be required to overtime shifts during the shifts
