Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: Days (United States of America) SURGERY SCHEDULER GENERAL SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision of a Supervisor/Manager/Coordinator, the scheduler is responsible from performing revenue cycle tasks necessary to ensure compliance, patient safety, and excellent customer service. The following tasks must be performed timely and accurately: schedule correct procedure/surgery appointments based on verbal requests or written orders (knowledge or medical terms and human anatomy preferred), demonstrate knowledge of Mercy system and services offered, validate patient demographic and insurance information, screen for medical necessity to ensure Medicare compliance, document necessary precertification/authorization for service, verify and accurately document patient eligibility and benefits, calculate and collect patient liabilities (money) and provide exceptional customer service. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Associates degree in health related field and a minimum of 3 years working in a physician practice, urgent care or similar setting OR the equivalent practice experience. Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to interact effectively with patients and families, physicians and office staff. Ability and willingness to identify operational and/or staff and provider issues and elevate them for resolution. Demonstrated problem- solving ability and experience. Must have a working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy, to include experience with practice management software. Experience with electronic medical records software (preferably EPIC) desirable. Possess an understanding of the revenue cycle process and related performance measures Analytical and organizational skills required to prioritize activities and adapt to rapidly changing situations. Experience in CPT and ICD-9 coding required. Must have a working knowledge of ICD-10 terminology. . Demonstrates a commitment to providing high levels of customer service.
