The National Director of Nursing Operations (NDNO) position is responsible for the overall direction of the nursing department and for maintaining desired patient outcomes and staff retention. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.
Essential Functions
- Develops a framework and strategy to prioritize, delegate, and execute nursing initiatives that align with the company strategy for nursing operations.
- Provides feedback to home office and hospitals on cross-functional initiatives progress (e.g., recruiting, staffing and scheduling, etc.)
- Implements tools to facilitate nursing professional growth and development.
- Assists hospitals in reviewing, creating, and revising policies and procedures for patient care consistent with hospital, JCAHO, CMS, and other federal, state, and local standards and expectations for nursing operations.
- Assists in the development of clinical protocols that use evidence based best practices to provide consistency and drive performance outcomes.
- Evaluates projects or initiatives strategic fit with the company’s objective to guide the allocation of human, financial and technological resources.
- Interfaces with cross-functional hospital leadership to oversee initiatives impacting nursing (e.g., float pools, recruiting strategies, etc.) aligned with home office strategies and facility goals.
- Engages regularly with hospital leadership and staff to identify unique operational needs and assists with development of action plans.
- Serves as temporary Director of Nursing as needed within designated hospitals.
- Develops and maintains company-wide compliant Infection Control and Patient Safety programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Master's degree or Master’s in Progress, either Bachelor’s or Masters must be in Nursing (BSN or MSN) required.
- Minimum 7 years rehabilitation hospital experience required.
- Minimum 4 years in nursing leadership role required.
Required Licenses, Certification, and/or Documentation
- Current state Registered Nurse license in good standing required.
- Association of Rehabilitation Nurses Certification (CRRN) required.
- Current CPR certification required. ALCS certification required in TX.
- Must maintain acceptable driving record, current driver’s license, and insurability

- Knowledge of current Infection Control requirements, practices, and regulations.
- Knowledge of tools, systems, and evidence-based practices utilized to support nursing operations.
- Knowledge of current related accreditation and certification requirements.

- Demonstrates general computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and record management.
