Join the Pharmaceutical Calibrations and Instrumentation (PCI) team! We are seeking a Calibration Technician II that can perform calibrations onsite at our client pharmaceutical facilities in Cambridge, MA and other sites in the area if needed.  If you prefer working at a fast pace, "on the go" instead of at a desk, have a passion for performing quality work, and have a strong electronics or instrumentation background, this position may be just for you!   Up to 50% travel is required based on project and client needs, as this is considered a "field service" position, although this position is projected to be at least 75% in the Boston metro area.

This position will focus on performing preventive maintenance, qualifications, relocations and calibrations on a variety of instruments such as electronics, temperature devices, pressure gauges, centrifuges, incubators, balances, and others as found in pharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory environments. 

The Calibration Technician reports directly to the Team Leader, Manager, or Director depending on the organizational structure.  This is a full time, hourly position. 

Expectations: 

Calibration Technicians complete calibrations, qualifications, and PMs with accurate and timely GxP documentation, following PCI and/or client specific policies and procedures. They are expected to take a proactive role in supporting the Team and in providing client support and are expected to build a high level of trust with internal and client personnel. This trust is developed through consistently upholding PCI Values and demonstrating Honesty, Integrity, Pride, Accountability, Teamwork, and Commitment. the Tech II is expected to have a broader knowledge base of instrumentation and regulatory compliance.  They will continue to train on new instrumentation areas and build an understanding of pharmaceutical and FDA requirements.  Increased client interaction will occur and the Tech II will develop a deeper understanding of PCI’s services and how clients can expand the use of these services.

Responsibilities/Assignments include but are not limited to:

  • Completes calibrations, maintenance, qualifications, commissioning and troubleshooting/repairs in a safe, timely, and accurate manner, following PCI and client specific policies and proposals.
  • Works to understand client needs and requirements through effective communication and develops client relationships through excellent customer service.
  • Maintains a neat and professional PCI work area and projects a professional image at all times.
  • Is attune to potential new opportunities for PCI when at a client site or interacting with a client and relays this lead back to Leader/Manager.
  • With minor supervision, completes calibrations, qualifications, and PMs with accurate and timely GxP documentation, following PCI or client specific policies and procedures, and in a safe manner.
  • With guidance, able to perform flow, conductivity, pH, mass and dimensional calibrations.
  • Is attune to potential new opportunities for PCI when at a client site or interacting with a client and relays this lead back to Leader/Manager.
  • Completes timesheets with correct labor code charges (weekly) and assists other PCI Associates in proper coding of time and expenses.
  • Responsible for proper handling and maintenance of PCI and client equipment, including testing and standards equipment.
  • Learning to troubleshooting and perform repairs, but the majority of work will continue to be scheduled calibrations and maintenance events
  • Able to identify and report any safety issues at the work site, including educating peers on safety practices.

Knowledge/Skills desired include but are not limited to:

  • Traceability, Substitution of Standards, and Test Accuracy and Uncertainty Ratios.
  • Pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation; as well as manual and computer-based process control loops and systems; understands and applies basic concepts of calibration and requirements including accuracy testing.
  • Instrument, equipment, and loop calibrations of various parameters in manufacturing, utilities, and laboratory environments.
  • Ability to climb stairs; climb on equipment such as tanks. Moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Electrical panel knowledge and electrical safety procedures.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Reliable, confident, eager to learn, and enjoy working with people.
  • Able to make independent decisions within defined scope of work, seeks clarification and directions when needed. Must be self-driven and demonstrate ability to work with little direction. 
    • Expanded understanding of Traceability, Substitution of Standards, and Test Accuracy and Uncertainty Ratios.
    • Expanded understanding of calibration concepts and requirements including accuracy testing requirements.
    • Able to make independent decisions within defined scope of work, seeks clarification and directions when needed. Must be self-driven and demonstrate ability to work with little direction.
    • Basic understanding and application of GMP’s and Life Science Industry regulations.
    • Basic understanding and application of instrument, equipment, and loop calibrations of various parameters in manufacturing, utilities, and laboratory environments.
  • Basic understanding of calibration concepts and requirements including accuracy testing requirements.

Experience & Education Required for the Calibration Technician II:

A two-year degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, other related technical field OR equivalent military training and two years of applicable (Metrology, Instrumentation, Calibration) experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.  Quality System/Pharmaceutical experience is preferred.
