Project Introduction

9 th Way Insignia will work with the Veterans Administration (VA) to support the governance pillar in creating, implementing, and providing support for the necessary requirements and outcomes of the Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) assessments. 9th Way Insignia will provide iterative updates for pillar use cases while accounting for a risk based and dependency-based priority of capabilities. A Zero Trust Engineer has IT experience with Cyber Security Policy and threat mitigation. The role requires familiarity with Cyber Security Tools, network topologies, intrusion detection, PKI, and secured networks, as well as experience in implementing cyber security regulations and ZTA.

The Cybersecurity Engineer specializing in Zero Trust Architecture will play a pivotal role in fortifying the security of the federal agency's digital assets and information systems. By implementing Zero Trust principles, the engineer will minimize the risk of data breaches, improve threat detection capabilities, and ensure that only authorized individuals have access to critical resources. This role not only enhances security posture but also contributes to the overall resilience of the agency in a landscape of ever-evolving cyber threats. The engineer will bring a proactive, forward-thinking approach to security, ensuring compliance with federal mandates while future-proofing the agency's cybersecurity framework.

Professional Level

This Cybersecurity Engineer position aligns within 9th Way Insignia as an Engineer 1. An Engineer 1 has a good understanding of the software development life cycle and can take on work without much direction majority of the time. Performs multiple engineering-related tasks in various assignments within the project and firm. An Engineer 1 has broad knowledge of engineering procedures and assists in the resolution of complex problems.  An Engineer 1 has strong technical skills and background, a knack for learning new technologies, and a blend of good problem-solving and innovation needed to resolve a wide variety of technical production challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Mature Cyber ZTA capabilities to improve Vulnerability Threat Intelligence Management capabilities.
  • Work with eMASS data to increase system teams with their develop of ZT use case and maturity assessments for reporting.
  • Assist in developing architecture for integrating findings into a centralized dashboard that allows product owners direct access to team-specific systems.

Collaboration : Work with cross-functional teams, including IT, software development, and data management, to embed Zero Trust principles into all systems.

  • Risk Management : Conduct security risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and develop mitigation strategies in line with Zero Trust.
  • Compliance and Governance : Ensure adherence to relevant federal regulations and compliance frameworks (e.g., FISMA, NIST 800-207, CISA directives).
  • Security Awareness : Contribute to the development of security awareness programs that educate employees about Zero Trust policies and best practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on reducing security risks.

  • Strong communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, highly regulated government environment.
  • Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in one of the following : computer science, electronics engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or cyber security
  • 10 years of relevant experience
  • 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • Salary Range

    77,000

    85,000 USD
