As a Family Service Specialist, you will supervise visits in the client home, community during the evenings (2pm-8pm) and weekends. The Families we serve have had children removed from the home and placed into the child welfare system due to allegations of abuse and/or neglect.
During these supervised visits, you will provide engaging parenting skills assistant, help to strengthen a family’s bond, and in the moment redirection and parent coaching in order to promote the safe and successful reunification of families.
You will be an advocate for the families, setting goals with the assistance of the caseworker and families, documenting progress, reporting any concerns of alleged abuse/neglect, testifying in court as needed, and providing transportation for the children and families we serve.
What You'll Do
- Support Family Goals: Work closely with families and the Department of Health and Human Services to help them reach goals set by their caseworker.
- Visit Facilitation & Transport: Facilitate visitations between children and their families, providing safe and reliable transportation to and from visits.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and unbiased reports of each visit.
- Resource Assistance: Help families find and apply for resources that support their path to reunification and well-being.

- Mileage Reimbursement: 30cents per mile.
- Hours: This position does require evening (2-8pm) and weekend availability.
What We're Looking For
- Reliable Transportation to safely transport children and meet families. Valid insurance and drivers license required.
- Clear Communication and strong documentation skills.
- Positive Rapport with families to build trust and provide meaningful support.
- Education: Preferred Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field , But NOT Required!(Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, etc).
- Experience: Prior experience working with kids, crisis intervention and conflict resolution, and knowledge of child development and the child welfare system
- Age Requirement: Candidates must be at least 21 years old.
- Background & Driving Record: Clear criminal history and a driving record with no more than three points assessed.
- Communication & Writing Skills: Strong written communication skills for accurate and unbiased documentation, as well as excellent verbal communication skills via phone and email.

Responsibilities:
This role will be working with families to provide direction, coaching, and motivation to achieve the goals set by DHS, and the court.
- Tier 1- No Bachelors Degree:
- Parent/child contact overseen by a third party in which the Supervisor has a High School Diploma or GED
- The only focus for Family Service Specialists is supervising the protection and safety of the child and adult participants
- Maintain consistent and open communication with the DHS, and your manager about your work with the families.
- Build great rapport with the families we serve.
- Ensuring that professional working relationships are created with families within your scope of duties and training.
- Submit written incident reports within 24 hours and submit service documentation and mileage for all cases within 36 hours of providing the service with families.
- Transport children and families to and from visitations.
- Tier 2- Bachelors Degree Holders:
- Contact between a noncustodial parent and one or more children in the presence of a third person in which the supervisor has a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and training
- The Family Service Specialist is actively involved in promoting behavioral change in parent/child relationships and will ensure that parental coaching is directed, and educational.
- Maintain consistent and open communication with the DHS, and your manager about your work with the families.
- Build great rapport with the families we serve.
- Ensuring that professional working relationships are created with families within your scope of duties and training.
- Submit written incident reports within 24 hours and submit service documentation and mileage for all cases within 36 hours of providing the service with families.
- Transport children and families to and from visitations.
