Summary

An Infant Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for infants, typically aged 6 weeks to 18 months.

Infant teachers play a pivotal role in fostering early childhood development by promoting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth in the youngest learners.

They create an environment that prioritizes the well-being and individualized care of each infant.

Duties

Infant Care :

  • Provide attentive care to infants, including feeding, diapering, and maintaining nap schedules.
  • Foster attachment and bonding through positive interactions and responsive caregiving.

Curriculum Development :

  • Develop and implement age- appropriate activities that support infant development, including tummy time, sensory exploration, and early language experiences.
  • Create a nurturing and responsive environment that encourages exploration and learning.
  • Safety and Hygiene :

  • Ensure a safe and clean environment by following health and hygiene guidelines, including sanitation and infection control procedures.
  • Maintain a secure and baby-proofed classroom.
  • Parent Communication :

  • Establish open and regular communication with parents or guardians to share daily updates on infant care routines, milestones, and needs.
  • Conduct parent -teacher conferences to discuss goals, achievements, and areas for improvement.
  • Emotional Support :

  • Provide emotional support to both infants and their families during the transition from home to daycare setting.
  • Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that eases separation anxiety.
  • Developmental Milestones :

  • Track and document developmental milestones and behaviors, sharing observations with parents and caregivers.
  • Creative Activities :

  • Organize and lead age-appropriate creative activities that stimulate sensory exploration, fine and gross motor skills, and cognitive development.
  • Team Collaboration :

  • Collaborate with other teachers and support staff to ensure the smooth operation of the childcare center and coordinate activities for different age groups.
  • Continuous Professional Development :

  • Stay updated on best practices in infant care, early childhood education, and child development through training, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
  • Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor 's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field ( preferred).
  • CPR and First Aid certification (often required)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with infants.
  • Knowledge of infant development milestones and best practices in infant care and early childhood education.
  • Background check and fingerprinting (often required).
  • Immunization records and health screenings (often required)
  • Experience working with infants in a childcare or early childhood setting (preferred).
  • Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 credits in ECE.
  • Childhood Development Associate
