Job Summary: The Counselor will provide treatment to individuals with acquired brain injuries in order to obtain the highest possible level of functioning. Treatment may include the training of other staff to improve the level of functioning of individuals in the program.
- Required Competencies: This position is open to the following as defined by 907 KAR 3:090:
- A psychiatrist;
- A psychologist;
- A psychologist with autonomous functioning;
- A licensed psychological associate;
- A licensed clinical social worker;
- A clinical nurse specialist with a master's degree in psychiatric nursing;
- An advanced practice registered nurse;
- A certified alcohol and drug counselor;
- A licensed marriage and family therapist;
- A licensed professional clinical counselor;
- A licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor associate effective and contingent upon approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services;
Primary Responsibilities: Assist individuals with brain injury in building and maintaining healthy relationships; developing social skills; developing skills to cope with and adjust to a brain injury, including the use of cognitive remediation strategies consisting of the development of compensatory memory and problem-solving strategies, and the management of impulsivity. Maintain regular communication with other clinical professionals regarding the needs of individuals in the program; attend treatment team and staff meetings as scheduled.
Additional Accountabilities: Complete required documentation in a timely and accurate manner, including daily service summaries and semi-annual progress reports; Perform re-evaluations and make changes to treatment protocols as needed in order to optimize the functioning of individuals in the program.
