Systems Network Engineer (LAN/WAN)

SUMMARY:
- Tier One Technologies is seeking a Systems Network Engineer to perform enterprise and local level LAN/WAN monitoring and propose enhancements that increase performance/reduce costs.
- This position will be located in Raleigh, NC.
- SELECTED CANDIDATES WITHOUT REQUIRED CLEARANCE WILL BE SUBJECT TO A FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION TO RECEIVE IT.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options.
- Perform cost/benefit studies of network configuration and recommend enhancements.
- Advise network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations.
- Coordinate installation activities by interfacing with hardware and software planners.
- Instruct operations personnel on the use of new equipment.
- Coordinate repair of vendor-owned equipment.
- Maintain contact with vendors during problem restorations and advise customers and management of restoration status.
- Interface with users during the support process.
- May assist with strategic or tactical planning to justify, market, or manage the technology needed for successful business operations.
- Implement and maintain LAN configurations, protocols, and inventory.
- Troubleshoot and resolve LAN connectivity issues, including, but not limited to, switches, routers, and cables.
- Document troubleshooting steps and solutions for future reference.
- Assist Tier1 support in diagnosing and resolving LAN-related problems.
- Provide Tier2 support for LAN-related incidents and service requests escalated from Tier1.
- Collaborate with Tier 3 LAN Engineers for complex issue resolution.
- Continuous learning and staying up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and industry developments in the LAN Engineering field.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is required. If the individual's degree is not in the applicable field, then 4 additional years of related experience is required.
- 8-12 years of Network/Systems Engineering experience.
- 5 years of LAN support experience, including providing ServiceNow Tier2 support to mitigate Service Tickets Issues/Outages/End User support needs.
- Proficiency in LAN protocols, technologies, security standards & methodologies (e.g., TCP/IP, VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocol etc.).
- Working knowledge of Cisco, Cisco Meraki, HP Aruba and Juniper technologies.
- Experience using IP Address Management Systems to include voice VLAN sizing is a plus.
- Experience performing switch acceptance for new field sites is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Ability to travel up to 10% for occasional short-term assignments.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance.
- Candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Status Green Card holder.
- Candidate must have lived in the US for the past 5 years.
- Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years. Military Service excluded. (Exception does not include military family members.)
