Summary & Responsibilities
The role of a Peer Support Specialist is to serve as a mental health and/or co-occurring condition who has been trained and certified to help others with these conditions, as well as identifying and achieving specific life and recovery goals.
Job Duties Include:
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and consultation to the individual to promote recover, self-advocacy, and self-direction
- Promote wellness management strategies, which include delivering manualized interventions (e.g. Wellness Recovery Action Planning or Illness Management and Recovery)
- Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness and resilience
- Provide consultation to team members to assist in understanding of recovery and the role of the Peer Support Specialists, promoting a culture in which individual’s points of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment
Education and Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- NC Certified Peer Support Specialist
- Must have one (1) year of adult behavioral health experience working with individuals with mental health or substance use disorders and have the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the population and age to be served

A Caring Alternative, LLC is CABHA certified and a Trauma Informed Agency. We provide an array of services to Alexander, Buncombe, Burke, Catawba, Caldwell, Iredell, McDowell, and Mitchell counties which consist of Assertive Community Treatment Team, Community Support Team, Day Treatment, Integrated Care, Intensive In-Home, Medication Management, Outpatient Therapy, and Therapeutic Foster Care.
