Overview
The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor - Operational Excellence leads a team focused on frontline operational excellence efforts, process improvement, real-time production support, and department-level problem-solving. This supervisor drives continuous improvement within manufacturing departments. They ensure consistent performance by enhancing efficiency, reducing process variability, implementing standard work, optimizing processes, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning across departments.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises a team, providing leadership for frontline production support, process optimization, and team development to ensure operational excellence.
- Provides real-time monitoring, frontline troubleshooting, and rapid response to production disruptions, minimizing downtime and maintaining operational efficiency.
- Leads department-level process standardization and problem-solving initiatives, ensuring alignment with operational goals and continuous improvement objectives.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams (Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, IT) to align priorities and drive process improvement projects.
- Collaborates with maintenance teams to ensure process stability, equipment reliability, and supports the implementation of predictive maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) strategies.
- Develops, maintains, and continuously improves standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and best practices to ensure process consistency, compliance, and knowledge retention.
- Monitors departmental key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing performance data to identify trends, address gaps, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Facilitates Kaizen events, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement workshops, engaging cross-functional teams to identify inefficiencies and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for recurring issues.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory and safety standards, supporting process validation and audit readiness to uphold quality and safety requirements.
- Coaches and mentors team members, fostering a culture of accountability, knowledge sharing, problem-solving, and operational excellence within the department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills to engage frontline teams.
- Expertise in process troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Strong data analysis skills for KPI tracking and performance improvement.
- Proficiency in predictive maintenance, TPM, and equipment reliability strategies.
- Proven success in driving operational excellence, process improvement, and frontline support initiatives.
- General understanding of ERP/PLM systems in a manufacturing setting.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- 8 years of manufacturing engineering experience, with 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
