Overview
The Director of Engineering leads the Design Engineering teams in facilitating product and platform strategy and setting engineering direction and process discipline for the development of new products and improvement and/or maintenance of current designs.
Duties and Responsibilities: (Essential Functions)
Manages, supports, and provides leadership and direction to multiple groups of Design Engineers and Design Managers.
- Recruits and builds a talented engineering organization with a strong design presence.
- Develops, mentors, and builds strong teams, leading these teams to high levels of performance.
- Establishes and evolves an effective engineering culture that compliments and supports the A-dec culture and excellent engineering performance.
Responsible for making substantial contributions to improving product development processes and execution.
- Partners with Product Management to ensure roadmaps are realistic with high customer value
- Partners with the Program Management Office to achieve required performance levels while meeting quality, cost, and manufacturability standards.
- Leads the organization to envision and propose new innovations and applications of technology that will improve overall product development and product value.
- Leads the organization to accomplish planned technical research projects.
Supports external and internal customers with cross functional partnerships to identify needs and maintain current designs with quality, cost, manufacturability, and regulatory improvements.
Reviews and approves proposals and cost estimates, evaluates progress of projects, and recommends procedural changes.
Provides technical analysis and recommendations to executive leadership.
Actively participates in relevant external and/or professional organizations to establish a professional network for serving company interests and the broader dental community.
Provides guidance on the assessment and management of intellectual property.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or other relevant discipline along with at least 10 years of experience in research, development, or product development, including at least 5 years in a management role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles and experienced in technical analysis, technical writing, and complex problem solving.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
