What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Design Engineer position at A&E Engineering, Inc.?
The Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for leading electrical design efforts for control systems of automated machinery. The Design Lead will be expected to work individually on smaller projects and manage complete design efforts with several engineers and designers. Ideal candidates have a thorough understanding of electrical control systems and have developed multiple systems from scratch. The successful candidate can take various project documentation and develop a complete system package that includes an I/O list, wire size and conduit specifications, elementary drawings, panel layouts, cable schedules, etc.The successful candidate can collaborate with customers and internal team on project work, and can work on and manage several projects simultaneously.
Requirements/Basic Qualifications:
- Electrical Engineering Degree with 5-10 years' experience in electrical design of Automation and Control Systems.
- Demonstrated ability to develop systems in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, EPlan, or similar software
- Knowledge of engineering principles, common engineering practices and the product development cycle
- Knowledge of, and ability to use, NEC and other applicable standards
- Estimate projects and develop scopes of work
- Guide others and act as individual contributor to produce:
- Equipment Specifications
- Single line/Three-line drawings
- Control panel layouts
- Schematics/Wiring/Interconnection diagrams
- General arrangement drawings
- Conduit/cable plans and/or schedules
- Grounding plans
- AC/DC power distribution drawings
- Equipment Testing Procedures and Commissioning plans
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with clients, project managers and engineers to deliver solutions
Desired/Preferred Experience:
- 10 years’ experience developing electrical & instrumentation drawings, schematics, P&ID's, etc.
- Knowledge of functional safety of machinery
- Demonstrated experience creating UL panel designs
- Understanding and experience with Hazardous area classifications
- Integrated safety design to meet SIL or PL requirements
- Experience with MCC design, VFD’s, and industrial networking
- Desire and progression to obtain Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure
