POSITION SUMMARY:
A Delivery Driver is a licensed CDL A operator who safely and efficiently operates a tractor-trailer and manually unloads/delivers various products (meats, produce, frozen foods, groceries, dry goods, supplies, etc.) to customer locations on an assigned route schedule. Our truck drivers build relationships with each customer using their positive, friendly attitude and become familiar with their operations to meet needs and expectations as well as working closely with our team to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and foster a good relationship with the customer as a representative of A.F. Wendling Food Service
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to a pre-determined route
- Unload products from trailer, with a two-wheeler and a ramp, and place in designated customer storage areas
- Verify delivery of correct items with customer and obtain proper signatures
- Collect money (cash or check) where required. Contact management for authorization concerning discrepancies on invoice and communicate all errors and returns
- Maintain DOT logs as required throughout the day
- Preform pre-trip duties including, but not limited to checking route numbers and account numbers for assigned deliveries, count items and check customer invoices of orders loaded, preform DOT pre-trip inspection on provided DVIR form.
Preform post-trip duties including, but not limited to unload damaged goods or customer returns, complete necessary paperwork, turn in all collected funds, park and secure truck, complete DOT Post-trip inspection on provided DVIR form and turn in to company representative
Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Driver's License
- Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards. Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMCSA) regulations
- Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
- Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
- Adhere to a Schedule Ability to understand and adhere to an assigned schedule
- Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Time Management Skills - Managing one's own time
- HS Diploma or equivalent,
- Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must have very strong urgency in meeting objectives and deadlines.
- Requires the ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
Ability to complete tasks under standardized situations with occasional variables.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and position: up to 30 lbs. regularly, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Must be able to constantly bend, reach above shoulder, grasp objects, climb, kneel, squat, twist and stand throughout shift.
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls.
- Working in multiple environments and inclement weather
Work Environment:
- Work hours may vary, or change based on department requirements.
- The job is primarily performed in a warehouse environment
- Regularly exposed to fast moving material handling and other mechanical equipment.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and or humid conditions, high and precarious places, vehicle emissions, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and high voltage electrical equipment.
The noise level in the work environment is typically low.
