Child Care Teacher

A Good Time Out
Bakersfield, CA Part Time | Full Time | Temporary
POSTED ON 9/5/2023 CLOSED ON 10/4/2023

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Teacher position at A Good Time Out?

Childcare centers have always fit into the same mold…and families in need of childcare have found limited choices, usually 2 days, 3 days, or 5 days per week. Families, who may not need such full time choices, are forced to enroll in those programs and pay for unneeded hours — worst of all, they could be signing long term contracts in a daycare situation that could turn out unfavorable. At A Good Time Out, we’re doing something different. We provide a home away from home for our children. We have created a fun, safe, and flexible environment where families can seek care for their children when they want and need it. Children can stay anywhere from as little as 1 hour a day to 5 full days a week. We teach, we play, and we work hard to make sure when a child leaves our care, no matter how long or short the visit, they are happy and begging to come back. Our ultimate mission is to make sure children can safely thrive during the time their parents cannot be with them. We need your help.

What We are Looking For:

We are looking for some great subs. This is a position where the current teachers will call you if they need a shift covered or become sick. The hours and days are not guaranteed as it is an on call type of position. Subs may be offered a more permanent position as spots become available. A sub should expect to work anywhere from 0-40 hours a week. They can adjust their own availability, accept or deny shifts without recourse.

We are also looking for 2 full time teachers. For this position you must be available Monday-Friday and can expect 30-40 hours of work per week. You must have at least 12 college level ECE units and 3 of them must be the Infant/toddler class. You will be required to show your transcripts so we can verify you posses these credentials.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Becoming a play expert.
  • Assessing the needs and desires of the children in your care.
  • Troubleshooting behavioral issues in children and coming up with ways to intervene and modify (especially working as a team).
  • Work will be performed under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • You WILL change diapers and help children in the restroom.
  • You WILL get messy!
  • You WILL need to clean some…
  • You may need to cook simple, kid friendly foods.

What we Can NOT Offer (just keeping it real):

If you are just "looking for a job." we may not be the right place for you. Working with children is hard work. Do not get us wrong it is fun but it is not easy. It is high energy. If you do not like or cant be on your feet for at least 4 hours at a time we are not the right center for you. If you are looking for a job so you have built in child care we are not the right center for you. We also do not provide free child care for our teacher's children and many times can not allow the teacher to work in the same room as their child. Childcare is not a condition of employment so if you need it we may not be the right center for you. A Good Time Out is not your typical child care center and therefore there is a bit of a learning curve once joining us. If you feel you know all there is to know about the world of daycare we strongly recommend you do not apply. We have been around for 17 years and we learn something new everyday. You will not and cannot become an expert after your first day.

Does this sound Like a Good Fit?

We’d love to talk to you! Please submit, in person the following to officially apply:

1. A resume and unofficial transcripts (come in person anytime between 10am-5pm Monday-Friday).

2. Ask for Amy our director. She will have a short questionnaire there for you to fill out.

THANK YOU! And we look forward to meeting the next awesome member of our Team!
