Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting management with accurate reporting and analysis. This role will focus on job cost accounting, fixed asset management, reconciliations, and supporting audits, helping drive financial efficiency across the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and record journal entries to ensure the accuracy of financial transactions.
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Oversee accounts receivable system management, including customer account reconciliation.
- Manage fixed assets, tracking additions, disposals, and calculating depreciation schedules.
- Assist with monthly and yearly audits, preparing necessary financial documents and supporting audit inquiries.
- Conduct job cost accounting and reporting, ensuring proper cost allocation and profitability analysis for construction projects.
- Generate financial reports, perform variance analysis, and provide insights to management.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including construction-related tax considerations.
- Support cash flow management, accounts payable, and payroll processes as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in financial operations.
- Handle other reporting and duties as assigned to support the finance department.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting, construction, engineering, or heavy civil industries.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP/accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, job cost accounting, fixed assets, and construction project accounting.
- Soft Skills: Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications: CPA, or other relevant certification is a plus.
