Zolman's Best One Tire & Service – Seeking a full-time Automotive Technician

Locally owned and operated, Zolman Tire, Inc. has serviced the automotive, light truck and commercial repair, tire and wheel needs of customers throughout the Mishawaka, IN area since 1978. Over the years we have expanded into eight retail locations in Mishawaka, IN, Granger, IN, South Bend, IN, Niles, MI, Portage, MI, and Kalamazoo, MI and four commercial fleet locations in Mishawaka, IN, South Bend, IN, Galesburg, MI, and Benton Harbor, MI.

We are seeking qualified mechanics for our Portage, Michigan location who value safety and teamwork. Technicians will be responsible for the efficient diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of vehicles along with replacement of general automotive parts and accessories. Techs are expected to partner with store management and service advisors to deliver superior service and education to customers on problems and proposed solutions for their vehicles. Hours requirements are 8a-5p M-F, with willingness to work overtime as needed. Essential Functions

• Inspect vehicles using inspection forms, report potential repairs to supervisor/service writers
• Diagnose and repair to specifications on passenger and light trucks - may include brake & hydraulic, exhaust, primary and/or advanced fuel ignition and electrical, suspension and alignment and air conditioning
• Adequately explain technical diagnoses, needed services and repairs to employees and customers on an as-required basis in a courteous and friendly manner
• Troubleshoots equipment issues to determine most cost-effective approach to fix, repair or resolve
• Consults with other mechanics as needed to discuss problems or questions with any particular process or procedure
• Operates equipment after completing repairs to ensure satisfactory completion/resolution of problem(s)
• Maintains current knowledge and skill needed to diagnose, fix or repair equipment
• Maintains neat and professional personal appearance
• Maintains orderly work area to include wiping up spills, neatly storing tools and parts, properly discarding old or unused parts and materials, sweeping area and emptying trash receptacles as needed
• Follows established company policies and guidelines for safety, quality and customer service; Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) as required or needed
• Assists with taking inventory as needed
• Maintain hand and power tools in good repair
• Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands / Work Environment

• Lifting: Frequent lifting over 50 pounds from ground to chest high
• Squatting, bending, and twisting: frequently
• Standing for extended periods of time
• Read ticket and perform work listed; write confirmation and recommendation
• Environment: Work in an environment that is not climate controlled. Temperatures range from extremely hot to extremely cold, depending on the season
• Vision (Near, distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception)
• Sense of sound (Ringing telephones, alarms, horns and motorized equipment)
• PPE: Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Safety Glasses, gloves, footwear)
  
  

Education

High school graduate or general education degree (GED)

Experience

2-4 years' experience in automotive repair preferred

Certifications/Licenses

Valid driver's license; driving record must meet company's insurance requirements

TIA 200 level certification (company can provide)

Michigan Mechanic's License (for Michigan locations)

Equipment

Ongoing training is required per company's standards

Knowledge of diagnostic and repair equipment
