Design Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design of metal building systems by applying established engineering practices, model building codes, and company standards.
• Work in a team environment with estimating, sales, and drafting to define, clarify, and process projects to meet customers’ needs on individual projects.
• Review project plans, specifications and building code requirements.
• Convey design information to drafting, using written and verbal communication.
• Assist sales, project managers, architects, and builders to determine project requirements and proper utilization of Behlen systems to meet customer needs.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design.
• If not already licensed, work directly under licensed engineers toward licensure.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• B. S. Degree in Engineering.
• 5 years of experience in metal building systems design.
• Ability to demonstrate design of medium to higher complexity buildings including but not limited to cranes, mezzanines, parapets, hangar door system support.
• Proficiency with AISC, AISI, ASCE 7, and model building codes.
• P. E. Registration strongly preferred but not required.
• Experience with MBS preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
• Continuous productivity improvements without loss of accuracy or completeness, reduction of manufacturing and drafting costs, and increased ease of erection and customer value.
• Ability to manage projects beyond the design phase through project completion.
• Ability to manage several overlapping projects.
• Train and mentor less experienced engineers.
