Summary of Duties
Maintains City streets including the operation, maintenance, and repair of work-related vehicles and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleans and repairs streets, sidewalks, storm drains and catch basins;
- Trims trees and picks up leaf piles;
- Picks up mail and delivers to City Hall;
- Sprays curbs with weed killer;
- Removes snow and ice and applies treatments as needed;
- Repairs and replaces signs, traffic lights, streetlights, and street paint;
- Installs and removes banners and seasonal decorations;
- Performs basic welding, carpentry, and hydraulic repairs;
- Operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of City vehicles and equipment, including sweepers, paint machines, dump trucks, bobcats, backhoes, skid steers, rubber tire loaders, leaf machines, chippers, snow plows/spreaders, snow blowers, and jackhammers;
- Completes work orders;
- Purchases maintenance products as needed using City purchasing card;
- Performs maintenance or installation of equipment and electrical systems including light replacement, sign installation, and concrete repair;
- Responds to City emergencies and priorities and maintains a city provided cell phone to be called-in as needed;
- Assists with special projects and performs other similar duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Must obtain and maintain a Class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
- Newly hired Employee has 90 days to obtain the written exams and must obtain the CDL with air endorsement no later than the completion of his or her sixth month of employment. City will pay for cost of obtaining a CDL, employee will sign an agreement to remain employed for two years after obtaining CDL or will pay back a prorated amount.
- Must pass drug test as prescribed by City policy.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Knowledge of current maintenance practices and their application;
- Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and equipment;
- Knowledge of safety practices around power tools and equipment;
- Ability to respond to high priority issues in a timely manner;
- Ability to read building plans;
- Ability to identify and repair problems, exercise initiative, and apply existing knowledge and skills;
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing to review work orders and other directions;
- Ability to perform duties as part of a team effort;
- Ability to use City resources effectively and efficiently.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Other Requirements
- Work is performed in an office environment and in the field, under the full range of climatic conditions of heat, cold, rain, wind, snow, or other forms of precipitation, as well as exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, and other atmospheric conditions;
- May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, moving traffic, risk of electrical shock, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, and infectious diseases;
- May be required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, talk and hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, see, and drive a motor vehicle;
- May be required to lift/move up to 50 pounds unassisted, heavier lifting with help from others and equipment;
- May require irregular hours and be required to serve in an “on-call” capacity.
