Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. The DSP works closely with clients in their home or community settings, ensuring they receive the necessary care and support tailored to their unique needs.
Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Provide transportation to appointments, social activities, and community events.
- Support clients in developing life skills and achieving personal goals through individualized plans.
- Administer medication as prescribed and monitor client health and well-being.
- Maintain accurate records of client progress and report any changes in behavior or condition to supervisors.
- Foster a positive environment that encourages social interaction and community involvement.
- Implement safety protocols and emergency procedures as needed.
Skills
- Experience in home health or home community care settings is preferred.
- Knowledge of working with individuals with developmental disabilities is essential.
- Familiarity with first aid practices and medication administration is a plus.
- Background in social work or related fields can enhance the effectiveness of support provided.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients, families, and team members.
